This Week's JRA Grade Races

A total of 15 colts have been nominated for Sunday’s Kisaragi Sho(g3) at Kyoto over 1,800 meters on grass. Kisaragi has provided occasional clues for the upcoming three-year-old classics. Three of the last 10 winners have made a successful run in the classics.

On the same day, Tokyo holds the Diamond Stakes(g3), a handicap race for 4-year-olds and upward going 3,400 meters on grass. It has a total of 19 nominees.

Moon makes a big apepal in Kyodo News

Admire Moon made a big appeal toward the classic races as he triumphed the Kyodo News Service Hai(g3) Sunday afternoon at Tokyo. Given a perfect ride by Yutaka Take, he won the 1,800 meters in 1 minute 48.4 seconds by a 1/2-length over Fusaichi Richard. Matchless Valor, a 3/4-length behind the runner-up and a 1/2-length Shonan Tachyon, took third place in the field of 11 three-year-old colts.

Admire Moon … held off the pace at mid-field, inside of Shonan Tachyon, squeezed through to get into contention within 400 meters out, produced a bursting run having been given a go sign by Take 200 meters out, prevailed in final stride.
Fusaichi Richard … chased the pace, led 400 meters out, collared by Admire Moon within 200 meters out, hung on tough, gave up the fight in the very final stage.

Matchless Valor … held well off the pace, stuck to his strong run well, chasing the first two down the final stretch.
Shonan Tachyon … always running well off the pace, made a pleasing move at the final turn, but was not able to match finishing kick of the first three.

Silk Road Stakes(g3): A thrilling blanket finish has been produced in the Silk Road Stakes in Sunday’s Kyoto Racecourse. The first six bunched up when they rushed into the line. The winner went to Tamamo Hot Play, who beat Meiner Albion by a head. Another 3/4-length back, I’ll Love Again got third with Copano Fujin finishing another head back in fourth. Another head further back Taiki Zillion(USA) came in fifth, and a nose behind Deep Summer sixth. The final time for the 1,200-meter turf race was 1 minute 8.9 seconds.

A Kokura specialist is returning to the course in the Kokura Daishoten. That is Meisho Kaido. At the venue, he has registered 8 wins, including 4 grade races, in 13 starts. His back-to-back victory in tomorrow’s 1,800-meter g3 has the possibility of achievement even though he carries the top weight of 59 kgs. The 16 runners will go to post at 3:30 p.m.
