Fine Grain takes Takamatsunomiya

Fine Grain got past Kinshasa no Kiseki(AUS) in the nick of time to win the Takamatsunomiya Kinen at Chukyo Racecourse on Sunday. A neck separated the two. The third, another 1 1/4-legth behind, was race favorite Suzuka Phoenix with Laurel Guerreiro fourth in the field of 18 horses. Hideaki Miyuki steered the winner to race the 1,200-meter distance in 1 minute 7.10 seconds on grass.

After switching to spring events going into this season, Fine Grain was undefeated in 3 starts. The 5-year-old Fuji Kiseki horse won the Yodo Tankyori Stakes in January and the Silk Road Stakes(g3) last month before gaining the Takamatsunomiya Kinen victory.

Fine Grain, out of the Polish Precedent mare Mill Grain, has now recorded the 5th win in 15 career starts for trainer H. Nagahama and owner Shadai Race Horse. His career earning boosted to 254+ million yen. Shadai Farm is the breeder of the dark bay horse.

2008 Takamatsunomiya Kinen field

A field is set for the sprint grade one event, the Takamatsunomiya Kinen, at Chukyo Racecourse on Sunday.
Among the 18 entries, Suzuka Phoenix makes an attempt to defend his title. In the absence of regular rider Yutaka Take, Yuichi Fukunaga takes the amount on the 6-year-old. The main opponent to Suzuka Phoenix could be Laurel Guerreiro, who comes into the grade one event off two straight grade victories.

2008 Takamatsunomiya Kinen

A total of 37 horses have been listed on the final nomination stage of the Takamatsunomiya Kinen which is to be run on Sunday at Chukyo Racecourse. The only JRA grade one race held by Chukyo goes over 1,200 meters on turf.

Japan Sends Four to Dubai

Japan will send four horses to the 2008 Dubai World Cup races. Multiple g1 winner Vermilion returns to Dubai for running in the Dubai World Cup where he finished fourth last year. Kyoto Kinen winner Admire Aura and 2007 Japan Derby heroine Vodka are scheduled to run in the Dubai Duty Free. Iide Kenshin, winner of the Zen Nippon Nisai Yushun, takes on the UAE Derby. They will leave Japan for Dubai on March 15.
