Vermilion takes February Stakes

The 2.4 favorite Vermilion drew away from the pack to win the February Stakes this afternoon at Tokyo Racecourse. The second, a 1 3/4-length behind, was Blue Concorde with Wild Wonder finishing another 2-length back in third. Yutaka Take took the mount on the winner to get home in 1 minute 35.30 seconds.

Yutaka Take sent Vermilion into a sixth position, while Victory got into the lead, setting the opening 1,000-meter in 59.10 seconds.Vermilion took a four wide on the final turn. On outside, Wild Wonder chased him, while Blue Concorde was in the middle of the crowd. Vermilion got a quick turn of foot. Blue Concorde and Wide Wonder looked like serious challengers, but neither of them did not match the pace when Vermilion drew away from them and the rest at around 300 meters to go, just galloping home for his fifth g1 winning run.

Quate from winning jockey Take:The horse had a perfect race. He ran smoothly behind the leading pack, and I just sat on him not to disturb his feeling. I'm looking forward to riding him in the Dubai World Cup.

Vermilion will return to Dubai for the Dubai World Cup on his next action.

Vermilion, trained by Sei Ishizaka and owned by Sunday Racing Co. Ltd., has now won 11 of his 22 starts with 749+ million yen in career earnings. The 6-year-old dark bay horse by El Condor Pasa out of the Sunday Silence mare Scarlet Lady was bred by Northern Farm.
