Laurel Guerreiro wins Sprinters S in closest battle

Laurel Guerreiro beat B B Guldan by the skin of his teeth to win the Sprinters Stakes at Nakayama on Sunday. Third was, a 1 1/4-length behind, Kanoya Zakura with I'll Love Again fourth and Ultima Thule fifth. Shinji Fujita on Laurel Guerreiro completed the 1,200-meter trip in 1 minute 7.50 seconds on firm ground.

The race was one of the most exciting and closest battle in Sprinters Stakes history. About 15-minute photo investigation was provided to determine the winner for the grade one sprint.

Inside 200 meters out, Laurel Guerreiro and B B Guldan broke away from the rest, and they performed a thrilling neck-to-neck battle to the line.

Having stumbled on the turn, Scenic Blast(AUS) was never into contention.

Laurel Guerreiro has now made a Sprinters Stakes - Takamatsunomiya Kinen double to confirm the best sprint horse in the country.

Laurel Guerreiro, a 5-year-old horse by King Halo out of the Tenby mare Big Tenby, has now won five in 26 starts with more than 482 million jp yen in career earnings.
Mitsugu Kon and Laurel Racing Co. Ltd. trains and owns him respectively. Murata Bokujo in Niikappu, Hokkaido was the breeder of the black bay horse.
