Nominations of JRA horses for 2010 Dubai

A total of 55 JRA horses have been preliminarily nominated for the 2010 Dubai World Cup races. The nominations include Buena Vista, Espoir City and Vodka.

Cosmo Nemo Shin wins Fairy Stakes

Cosmo Nemo Shin won the grade 3 Fairy Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Nakayama today to provide jockey Syu Ishibashi with the first grade victory. A neck behind the winner, Apricot Fizz took second with Taylor Burton another 1 1/4-length back third in the field of 16 horses.
Cosmo Nemo Shin is a daughter of Zenno Rob Roy out of the Singspiel mare Du Pre.

Nine horses fall at Nakayama

Nine out of the 16 horses fell down on the ground in the make debut race for 3-year-old maidens on dirt surface at Nakayama today.
The big incident took place at the final corner as the leader Nobo Project hung out and gave Formen a bad bump, knocking him down on the ground and causing the eight horses behind him to fall down on the ground one after another.
Nobo Project passed the post first, but was disqualified for badly intefering with Formen.

Garbo easy winner of g3 Shinzan Kinen

Garbo was an easy winner of the grade 3 Shinzan Kinen for 3-year-olds, held at Kyoto on Sunday. The Manhattan colt made devastating acceleration inside the 200-meter out and went on to win the 1,600-meter turf in 1 minute 34.30 seconds. Shine, a 3-length behind the winner, finished second having led the field of 16 colts.

JRA 2009 Horse of the Year Award goes to Vodka

Vodka was named for the Horse of the Year in two consecutive years on Wednesday, January 6. The Tanino Gimlet mare won three g1 races, including a sensational victory in the Japan Cup, in seven starts last season. She also received the 2009 Best Older Female Award.

Kikuka Sho winner retires

Three Rolls, winner of the 2009 Kikuka Sho(Japanese St.Leger) has been retired from racing and will go to stud. He suffered injury on his left front leg during the 2009 Arima Kinen. No determination has been made where he stands.

2010 Nakayama Kimpai

A thrilling finish has been produced in the Nakayama Kimpai on Tuesday. The small margins separated the first five finishers. The winner of the grade three handicap race went to Axion, who finished a neck before Tosho Scirocco in 2 minutes .80 seconds for the winning post. Tosho Wave, a nose behind, was third with Delphoi another nose away in fourth. Schon Wald finished another nose further back in fifth.

Axion, a 7-year-old bay horse by Sunday Silence out of the Dixieland Band mare Greatest Hits, has now gained three-straight victory.

The grade three Kyoto Kimpai was at Kyoto won by Live Concert(IRE), who beat Smart Gear by a 1/2-length. The final time was 1 minute 34.10 seconds for the 1,600-meter turf race.
Live Concert is a 6-year-old gelding by Singspiel out of the Kingmambo mare Dance Lively.

JRA 2010 Season Kicks Off

JRA 2010 season will kick off on January 5 at Kyoto and Nakayama.

Kyoto hosts the g3 Kyoto Kimpai for 4yo+ as the main event on the first meeting day of the season, while Nakayama hosts the g3 Nakayama Kimpai for 4yo+.

Note that Kimpai means Gold Cup in English.
