Orfevre storms home in Derby
Orfevre stormed home on the muddy Tokyo course in the Tokyo Yushun(Japanese Derby) on Sunday to collect his second classic victory of the season. He won the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas) last month.
Orfevre, ridden by Kenichi Ikezoe, quickened upon into the front at around 200 meters remaining on his way to winning the 2011 Derby in 2 minutes 30.50 seconds. Second was, a 1 3/4-length behind, Win Variation with Belshazzar finishing another 7 lengths away in third.
Owned by Sunday Racing Co. Ltd. and trained by Y.Ikee, Orfevre has now won four in 8 starts. His career earnings boosted to 411+ million jp yen.
Shadai Corporation Inc. was the breeder of Orfevre, a 3-year-old bay colt by Stay Gold out of Oriental Art by Mejiro McQueen.
