Orfevre makes history


Orfevre became the seventh Triple Crown winner on Sunday afternoon as he won the Kikuka Sho(Japanese St. Leger) in great fashion at Kyoto Racecourse. Ridden by Kenichi Ikezoe, the 1.4 favorite took the lead in the early stretch, and then he eased up by a 2 1/2-length from Win Variation for the historical victory. Tosen Ra was, another 1 3/4-length behind, third in the field of 18. The final time was 3 minutes 2.80 seconds for the 3,000-meter trip on firm ground.

It was a great and popular triumph for Orfevre, who was confirmed the best 3-year-old horse in the country. He raced in the color of Sunday Racing Co. and the saddle of Y.Ikee, 10 times, 6 of them which were the winning runs. His career earnings brought up to 615+ million jp million jp yen.
