Outsider wins February Stakes
Testa Matta(USA), ridden by Yasunari Iwata, gained a splendid victory this afternoon at Tokyo Racecourse. The 24.3 outsider won by 2 lengths from Silk Fortune, who deprived Wonder Acute of second place by a 3/4-length. Another nose back, Danon Come On was fourth with Espoir City fifth. Heavy favorite Transcend finished a disappointing seventh.
Yasunari Iwata kept Testa Matta far off the pace early on, but they pulled their way to the front after the turn into the long home stretch. At around 200 meters from home, Test Matta and Iwata drew away from the rest before getting to the winning post of 1 minute 35.40 seconds.
Testa Matta has now won six of his 24 races under the color of K. Yoshida and the train of A. Murayama. His career earnings brought to 324+ million jp yen.
Bred in USA by Waterford Farm, Test Matta is a 6-year-old bay horse by Tapit out of the Concern mare Difficult.
