The race was run at a good pace as Golden Hind made the running followed by Beat Black. The two opened up a huge lead on the backstretch for the second time. Beat Black took a lead from Golden Hind on the final turn. From there, he galloped all the way to the line.

2012 Tenno Sho Spring Field

Orfevre, regarded as the best horse in the country, is likely to be the favorite for the 2012 Tenno Sho Spring. Last time out, he lost lots of grounds by swerving to the outside when turning round the third corner, but he made a big comeback into contention to finish second in the grade two Hanshin Daishoten. This colt has the ability to crush the field if he runs smoothly.

Gold Ship winner of Satsuki Sho

Gold Ship came home a winner of the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas) this afternoon at the relatively muddy Nakayama ground. Perfectly ridden by Hiroyuki Uchida, Gold Ship won the 2,000-meter classic race in 2 minutes 1.30 seconds.

World Ace was, a 2 1/2-length behind, second with another 3/4-length back Deep Brillante third. Another nose further away, Cosmo Ozora finished fourth followed by Grandezza fifth in the field of 18 colts.

Gold Ship was last of all in the early stage. Uchida took him to the inside coming round the final bend, while his rivals came wide. When Gold Ship did so, he made up a lot of ground.

By the time the field reached the top stretch, Gold Ship took the lead on his way to getting up to the winning post.

World Ace, coming from far behind in the stretch, got past almost all of his opponents, but was not able to catch the only winner to finish second.

Bred and owned by E. Kobayashi, Gold Ship has now recorded fourth win of his six races. With the 130+ million jp yen first prize of the Satsuki Sho, his earnings brought to 217+ million jp yen. Gold Ship is a 3-year-old gray colt by Stay Gold out of the Mejiro McQueen mare Point Flag.

Gentildonna storms home in Oka Sho

Gentildonna stormed home to win the Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas) this afternoon at Hanshin Racecourse. She beat Verxina by a 1/2-length in an exciting finish with another 1/2-length back I'm Yours third. Race favorite Joie de Vivre finished a disappointing sixth place. Yasunari Iwata guided the winner to cover the 1,600-meter distance in 1 minute 34.60 on firm ground.

Within the 200 meters to go, Verxina and I'm Yours pulled away from the rest. It looked like a two-way battle, but Gentildonna drew up to them on the outside. The three locked together in a moment before Gentildonna got past the two rivals.

Gentildonna, trained by S. Ishizaka and owned by Sunday Racing Co. Ltd., has now won three in five starts with 166+ million jp yen in career earnings. Northern Racing was the breeder of the bay filly.
Gentildonna is a 3-year-old filly by Deep Impact out of the Bertolini mare Donna Blini.

Field Set For 2012 Oka Sho

A field is set for the 2012 Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas) at Hanshin on Sunday.

Joie de Vivre, coming off third place in the March 3 Tulip Sho, could top the field of 18 fillies in the first filly classic. She gave us a great impression when winning the grade one Hanshin Juvenile Fillies at her only second start last December. The main oppositions to Joie de Vivre could be Gentildonna, I'm Yours and Verxina.
