Curren Black Hill led the field of 18 from start to finish to win the 2012 NHK Mile Cup this afternoon at Tokyo Racecourse. Shinichiro Akiyama steered the winner to cover the 1,600-meter race in 1 minute 34.50 seconds on firm ground. Second was, a 3 1/2-length behind, Alfredo with another neck back Clarente third.
Mount Shasta was disqualified for interfering with Shigeru Sudachi, whose rider H. Goto fell down on the ground in the middle homestretch.
Curren Black Hill remains undefeated in 4 starts for trainer O. Hirai and owner T. Suzuki. His career earnings brought to 164+ million jp yen. The black bay colt won the Kyoto shimba(maiden) race on Jan. 21 and followed up with the Kobushi Sho victory at Kyoto on Feb. 18. Before the NHK Mile Cup, he gained a victory of the grade two New Zealand at Nakayama on Apr. 7.
Curren Black Hill, bred by Northern Racing, is a 3-year-old colt by Daiwa Major out of Charleston Harbor by Grindstone.
