Whale Capture finally captured the first grade one race when she won the grade one Victoria Mile this afternoon at Tokyo Racecourse. She had narrow defeats at the grade events in six occasions.
The Kurofuna winning filly covered the 1,600-meter turf race in 1 minute 32.40 seconds on firm ground. Donau Blue, a 1/2-length behind, finished second and Marcellina, another nose back, got third. Kyowa Jeanne was, another 3/4-length back, fourth with Apapane finishing another neck further back in fifth.
200 meters to go, Queen's Barn, Whale Capture and Donau Blue(from the rail) traveled at the same level. Right behind, Apapane, Marcellina and Kyowa Jeanne were in a hurry. But Whale Capture quickly got up to the front when veteran jockey Norihiro Yokoyama asked her to do so.
