Super Filly wins Japan Cup

Gentildonna gained the fourth g1 glory of the year when she won the Japan Cup this afternoon. She won the 3-year-old filly classics, namely, the Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas), the Japanese Oaks and the Shuka Sho, earlier this season.

It was her first start against older horses, but she came out on top in the world-famous Japanese race by outdueling race favorite Orfevre.

Orfevre was about to get past the weakening Beat Black at around 200 meters from home, and at the moment later, Gentildonna squeezed between them. From there, Gentildonna and Orfevre began to emerge a thrilling head-to-head battle to the line.

Gentildonna finished a nose in front of Orfevre under Yasunari Iwata, running the 2,400-meter turf trip in 2 minutes 23.10 seconds. Another a 2 1/2-length behind, Rulership finished third with Dark Shadow another head further away fourth.

Gentildonna gave Orfevre a slight bump as she went for the gap between Orfevre and Beat Black. The steward investigated that incident, but the finishing order stood officially.

Owned by Sunday Racing Co. and trained by S. Ishizaka, Gentidonna has now won seven of her 9 starts with 689+ million jpn yen in career earnings. The 3-year-old bay filly by Deep Impact out of the Bertolioni mare Donna Blini was bred by Northern Racing.

Orfevre early favorite for Japan Cup

As of Saturday, Orfevre has been installed as the 2.1 favorite for the 2012 Japan Cup. The 4-year-old colt would like to prove that he is the best horse in the country tomorrow. Gentildonnda was the 6.1 second favorite followed by Rulership 6.2 and Fenomeno 8.6. The rest of the field was 10.0 or higher.

2012 Japan Cup

The 2012 Japan Cup drew a total of 17 horses. 5 of them are foreign entries.

Orfevre and Solemia(IRE) meet again when they line up in the Japanese premier race. The last time they met in the Arc de Triomphe in an early-October, Solemia got past Orfevre near the line, winning by a neck.

This time, the home advantage goes to Orfevre, who has won two in three starts at Tokyo. Reunited with K. Ikezoe, this colt would have a good chance.

Other fancied horses include Gentildonna, who has dominated the 3-year-old filly classics this season; Rulership, winner of the HK QE Cup who has consistently run on the high level; Eishin Flash and Fenomeno, who finished first and second in the Tenno Sho Autumn respectively.

Sadamu Patek takes Mile Champ

It was a sensational victory for Sadamu Patek in the Mile Championship this afternoon at the good Kyoto racecourse.

Yutaka Take took Sadamu Patek into the lead in the mid-stretch. "I aimed at the inside as I planned.", Take said. He just rushed home for a neck victory.

In the late stage, Grand Prix Boss and Donau Blue moved up on the outside for a serious fight, but it was too late to catch the winner. Grand Prix Boss came second with Donau Blue finishing a 1/2-length behind of him in third. Silport, who led the field of 18 from the start, hung on tough to get fourth place.

Sadamu Patek, trained by M.Nishizono at Ritto and owned by S. Onishi, has now won 5 of his 16 races. His career earnings brought to 353+ million jpn yen.
Shadai Corporation was the breeder of Sadamu Patek, a 4-year-old bay colt by Fuji Kiseki out of the Helissio mare Summer Night City.

Consistent performer on the grade level. Comes into this race off a 4th in the grade two Swan Stakes. Has yet to win a grade race but don't underestimate.

GRAND PRIX BOSS
Dual grade one winner who finally ended his losing streak when winning the g2 Swan Stakes last month. Would have a chance if he reproduces the best run.

FINAL FORM
Cosistent runner who has never finished worse than 3rd in 6 starts. Put up a good performance in the older grade company last time out when finishing a respectable second in the g3 Fuji Stakes. Could be open to improvement.

STRONG RETURN
Won the grade one Yasuda Kinen earlier this season. Finished 7th in the grade two Mainichi Okan coming off a 4-month layoff. Would have a chance if he recovers his best form.

2012 QE II Cup at Kyoto

In the absence of Gentildonna, Verxina has a good chance to pick up the first grade one victory when she runs in the 16-field of the Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup - Diamond Jubilee at Kyoto on Sunday. The Deep Impact 3-year-old filly finished seconds in the filly classics behind Gentildonna this season. She drew post 12. Hiroyuki Uchida takes the mount.
