Gold Ship rallies from last to win Arima Kinen

Gold Ship came far off the pace to win the Arima Kinen this afternoon at Nakayama.

It was the third grade one triumph for the 3-year-old gray colt, trained by N. Sugai, who has now won 7 of his 10 career starts. With 203+ million jpn yen first prize of the victory, his career earnings brought to 639+ million jpn yen.

Gold Ship, a son of Stay Gold and the Mejiro McQueen mare Point Flag, was bred by E. Kobayashi, who also owned the colt.

Gold Ship was given a confident ride by Hiroyuki Uchida, who held off the colt at dead last in the earl stage, and then the jockey gave the colt a go-sign before the third turn.

An excitement began as Eishin Flash sneaked into the front along with the rail within 200 meters from home. Ocean Blue was just behind on the middle. Gold Ship came with a strong late stride on the outside. After a short thrilling battle of the three, Gold Ship drew away to win by a 1 1/2-length in a time of 2 minutes 31.90 seconds for the 2,500-meter distance on firm ground.

Ocean Blue got to the line a neck in front of a poor starting Rulership. Fourth place was, another 1 1/2-length behind, Eishin Flash.
