Gentildonna is named for Horse of Year
Gentildonna was named for the 2012 Horse of the Year, JRA announced on Tuesday, January 8. The newly turned 4-year-old filly won six of her seven races with earnings of 681+ million jpn yen in 2012 season. The victories that she gained included four grade one races, namely, the Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas), the Japanese Oaks, the Shuka Sho and the Japan Cup. Gentildonna, a daughter of Deep Impact and the Bertolini mare Donna Blini, is trained at Ritto by S. Ishizaka and owned by Sunday Racing Co. Ltd.
Transcend and Rulership retired
Dirt champion Transcend and international g1 winner Rulership have been retired from racing.
Transcend was awarded as the best dirt horse in 2011. He won the February Stakes and the Japan Cup Dirt in that season. His last appearance on the course was the Tokyo Daishoten last December in which he finished seventh. The 2011 Dubai World Cup in which he finished a narrow second behind Victoire Pisa will be remembered. Transcend, a son of Wild Rush out of the Tony Bin mare Cinema Scope, won 10 in his 24 career starts with 796+ million jpn yen in career earnings. He will go to stud at Arro Stud in Hokkaido.
Rulership, by King Kamehameha out of the Tony Bin mare Air Groove, enjoyed at his best season in 2012, winning the grade two American jockey Club Cup at Nakayama and the group one Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin. His final appearance on the course was the Dec. 23 Arima Kinen in which he finished third. He was retired with 8 wins of his 20 races and earnings of 637+ million jpn yen. He will go to stud at Shadai Stallion Station in Hokkaido.
