Isla Bonita wins Satsuki in spectacular style

Isla Bonita performed a spectacular finish in the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas) Sunday afernoon, winning it by a 1 1/4-length over the 2,000-meter Nakayama turf in 1 minute 59.60 seconds. This gave veteran jockey Masayoshi Ebina his first Satsuki victory.  Second went to To the Victory followed by Win Full Bloom another 1/2-length back in third.

Isla Bonita was held up at the middle of the 18-horse field. "He settled very well early on, so I decided to  make an early move.", Ebina said. Isla Bonita was in a good position after turning into the stretch before producing a devastating acceleration in the final stage. To the Victory provided the slight threat to Isla Bonita, but was not able to keep up with him inside the 200 meters.

Isla Bonita, a 3-year-old colt by Fuji Kiseki out of the Cozzene mare Isla Cozzene, has now won five in six starts with more than 232 million jp yen in career earnings. Bred by Shiraoi Farm, the dark bay colt is trained at Miho by H. Kurita. His owner is Shadai Race Horse Co.
