Outsider wins Hakodate Sprint

Outsider Garbo won the grade three Hakodate Sprint Stakes to end his losing streak this afternoon at Hakodate. This was his first triumph since winning the Lord Derby Trophy two seasons ago.

Garbo, with Akihide Tsumura up, held off serious challenges from Robe Tissage and Xmas to cross the line in 1 minute 8.50 seconds over 1,200 meters on turf. A neck second was Robe Tissage, who was a head better than Xmas.

Race favorite Straight Girl struggled in the pack to finish a disappointing 11th.

Owned by K. Ishikawa and trained by H. Shimizu, Garbo is a 7-year-old horse by Manhattan Cafe out of the Generous mare Yamato Damashii.     S. Tamura was the breeder of the black horse.
