Sound True rallies in Tokyo Daishoten

Sound True came from behind to win the 61st Tokyo Daishoten under Takuya Ono this afternoon  at Ohi Track. Sound True, trained at JRA Miho by N. Takagi, flew past Hokko Tarumae in the blink of an eye to reach the winning post in 2 minutes 3.00 seconds over the 2,000-meter Ohi dirt track. A 1 3/4-length behind, Hokko Tarumae finished second with another 6-length back Wonder Acute third.
Sound True is a 5-year-old chestnut gelding by French Deputy out of the Fuji Kiseki mare Kyoei Truth.

Gold Actor takes Arima Kinen

Gold Actor showed a great performance this afternoon when he won the Arima Kinen under Hayato Yoshida at Nakayama Racecourse. 
Gold Actor raced behind the leading pack and draw out at the very final stage. Before a neck victory in the final time of 2 minutes 33 seconds, he had to deny challenge by Sounds of Earth. Another head back, third place was Kitasan Black, who led the field of 16 from start. Race favorite Gold Ship finished 8th.

Trainer T. Nakagawa's decision not to run Gold Actor in the Japan Cup was justified with this victory.

Owned by K. Ishiro and bred by Hokusho Farm, Gold Actor, a 4-year-old brown colt by Screen Hero out of the Kyowa Alysheba mare Heilong Xing, has now won seven of his 13 races with almost 420 million jpn yen in career earnings.

Hartley wins Hopeful S
Hartley produced an excellent rally to win the grade two Hopeful Stakes at Nakayama on Sunday. Masayoshi Ebina rode the winner, completing the 2,000-meter trip in 2 minutes 1.80 seconds. A 1 1/4-length behind, Lord Quest came second with another 1 3/4-length away Battistini third.
Hartley is a 2-year-old bay colt by Deep Impact out of Wickedly Perfect, by Congrats.

Gold Ship early favorite for Arima Kinen

As of Saturday, Gold ship has been installed as the 4.1(31/10) favorite for the Arima Kinen. Lovely Day was the 4.4(17/5) second favorite followed by Kitasan Black 6.8(29/5) and Lia Fail 7.4(32-5).
The post time for the Arima Kinen will be at 3:25 p.m. JST on Sunday, December 27, 2015.

Thrilling finish in Hanshin Cup

Rosa Gigantea, ridden by Mirco Demuro, won the grade two Hanshin Cup after a thrilling neck-and-neck battle with Dance Director, who came second, a nose behind. Another 1 1/2-length behind, Big Arthur was thir place.
The final time for the 1,400-meter distance on Hanshin turf was 1 minute 21.40 seconds.
Rosa Gigantea is a 4-year-old black colt by Fuji Kiseki out of Turfrose, by Big Shuffle.

Field drawn for 2015 Arima Kinen

16 horses assemble for the Arima Kinen(Grand Prix), the biggest season-ending race, at Nakayama Racecourse on Sunday. It looks like a wide-open contest.

Last Impact, second in the Japan Cup, drew post 3. 
Tenno Sho Autumn winner Lovely Day, who finished third in the Japan Cup, drew post 4. 
Albert(post 6) and Gold Actor(post 7), both whom are stepping up to the highest level, meet the top company for the first time.
Kitasan Black, winner of the Kikuka Sho(Japanese St. Leger), drew post 11 to face the top older horses.
Lia Fail, a narrow third in the Kikuka Sho, drew post 12.

Final week of the season - JRA graded races

On Sunday, December 27,  the Arima Kinen(Grand Prix) for 3yo+ over 2,500 meters on turf will be run at Nakayama Racecourse. A total of 20 horses remain on the final nomination stage of the biggest season-ending race. On the same day, Nakayama Racecourse features the 2,000-meter Hopeful Stakes for 2-year-olds, to which 16 horses have been nominated.

On Saturday, December 26, Hanshin Racecourse hosts the grade two Hanshin Cup for 3yo+. A total of 20 horses have been nominated to the 1,400-meter turf race.

Leontes rallies in Futurity Stakes

Leontes, at his only second start, rallied in the stretch to win the grade one Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes at Hanshin Racecourse on Sunday. Mirco Demuro rode the winner, completing the 1,600-meter race in 1 minute 34.40 seconds.
Leontes, a half brother to 2014 Japan Cup winner Epiphaneia, raced at the dead last in the early stage, but he displayed an outstanding stretch run to get past favorite Air Spinel for a 3/4-length victory.
A 4-length behind Air Spinel, Shadow Approach was third place.
Trained by K. Sumii and owned by Carrot Farm, Leontes has now won two as many starts with more than 78 million jpn yen. Northern Farm was bred the 2-year-old dark bay colt, by King Kamehameha out of Cesario, by Special Week.

Air Spinel early favorite for Futurity S

As of Saturday, Air Spinel has been installed as the 1.7(7-10) favorite for the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes for 2-year-olds at Hanshin on Sunday. Leontes was the 6.0(5-1) second favorite followed by Shuji 8.9(79-10).

Sambista, recent winner of the Champions Cup, has been retired from racing. She will be bred at Grand Stud.

Major Emblem romps Hanshin Juvenile F

Race favorite Major Emblem, ridden by Christophe Lemaire, took a sole lead entering the final stretch, and then went on to win the grade one Hanshin Juvenile Fillies at Hanshin Racecourse on Sunday. She won the 1,600-meter race in 1 minute 34.50 seconds by a 2-length from Win Fabulous, who finished a 1 1/4-length before Blanc Bonheur in second place.
Major Emblem, trained by Y. Tamura and owned by Sunday Racing Co., has now won three of her four races with more than 94 million jpn yen in career earnings.
Northern Farm was bred the 2-year-old chestnut filly, by Daiwa Major out of Catchy Title, by Opera House.

Kikuno Storm takes Capella Stakes
Kikuno Storm rallied on the outside to pick up the Capella Stakes victory at Nakayama on Sunday. Hiroyuki Uchida was aboard the winner, traveling the 1,200-meter distance in 1 minute 9.70 seconds for the final time.
Kajiki finished, a neck behind, second place with Maruka Fleet another 1/2-length away third.

Fluky rallies in Challenge Cup

Fluky rallied on the inside down the final stretch to win the grade three Challenge Cup in 1 minute 46.10 seconds over 1,800 meters on the Hanshin turf course. The winning rider was Micro Demuro. A 1 1/2-length behind the winner, Historical finished second with another 1/2-length away Siberian Superb third.
Fluky is a 5-year-old black horse by Redoute's Choice out of Sunday Smile, by Sunday Silence.

Sambista upset victory in Champions C

Sambista became the first female horse to win the Champions Cup at Chukyo Racecourse on Sunday. 12th favorite Sambista took a good position, behind the leading group, before pulling away from the rest at the deep stretch. Mirco Demuro rode her in covering the 1,800-meter trip in 1 minute 50.40 seconds on fast track.
Nonkono Yume rallied on the rail to finish second place, a 1 1/2-length behind the winner. Another neck behind, Sound True was third with Roi Jardin fouth and Hokko Tarumae fifth.
In the color of K. Hishida Breeders Union and the saddle of trainer K. Sumii, Sambista has now won 11 of her 28 

races with more than 376 million jpn yen in career earnings.
Grand Stud was bred Sambista, a 6-year-old dark bay mare by Suzuka Mambo out of White Carnival, by Misil.

Nonkono Yume early favorite for Champions Cup

After closing Saturday betting round, the favorite for the Champions Cup went to Nonkono Yume at odd of 3.4(12/5). The second favorite was Copano Rickey at 3.7(27/10) followed by Hokko Tarumae 4.3(33/10), Sound True 10.0(9/1) and Gun Pit(AUS) 12.7(117/10).

Albert romps Stayers S

Race favorite Albert, ridden by Ryan Moore, went into the front at the mide-stretch, and yet he won the Stayers Stakes by a decisive 5-length from Comfy with another neck back Twinkle third. The final time for the 3,600-meter race was 3 minutes 45.90 seconds.
Albert is a 4-year-old chestnut colt by Admire Don out of Folklore, by Dance in the Dark.

Mitra victorious in Kinko Sho
Mitora raced behind the leading pack under Yuichi Shibayama to win the grade two Kinko Sho in 1 minute 58.80 seconds over the Chukyo 2,000-meter turf course. A 1 1/4-length behind, Decipher came second with Satono Noblesse finishing another head away in third.

Shonan Pandora wins Japan Cup in thrilling finish

Fourth favorite Shonan Pandora just got up the post in time to win the 35th Japan Cup under Kenichi Ikezoe in 2 minutes 24.70 seconds on the Tokyo 2,400-meter turf course on Sunday. She passed the line a neck in front of seventh favorite Last Impact with race favorite Lovely Day finishing another neck away in third place.
Another 1 1/4-length back, Jungle Cruise finished fourth place followed by Sounds of Earth and Erupt.
The most excitement began as Lovely Day went into the front at around 200-meter out with Last Impact chasing after him on the inside and Shonan Pandora making up the ground on the outside. The three fought it out to the post. In the end, Shonan Pandora's storming challenge prevailed.
Trained by T. Takano and owned by T. Kunimoto, Shonan Pandora has now won five of her 16 races and improved her career earnings to more than 567 million jpn yen. Shonan Pandora, a 4-year-old bay filly by Deep Impact out of Cutie Gold, by French Deputy, was bred by Shadai Corporation.

Satono Lupin wins Keihan Hai
Satono Lupin held on challenge by Big Arthur to win the Keihan Hai at Kyoto on Sunday. Ryuji Wada was the winning rider to complete the 1,200-meter turf race in 1 minute 7.40 seconds. Big Arthur came second, a head  behind, with another 3 1/2-length back Earth Sonic third.
Satono Lupin is a 4-year-old dark bay colt by Deep Impact out of the Dancing Brace mare Erimo Pixy.

Dreadnoughtus wins Kyoto Nisai S

Dreadnoughtus ran with the pace to win the Radio Nikkei Hai Kyoto Nisai Stakes for 2-year-olds under Yutaka Take in 2 minutes 1.30 seconds at Kyoto on Saturday. 
Respect Earth, who led the field of 12 from the start, came second, a head behind, with another 1 1/4-length back Admire Eikan third.
Dreadnoughtus is a 2-year-old chestnut colt by Harbinger out of Dia de la Novia, by Sunday Silence.

Stage set for 2015 Japan Cup

A maximum field of 18 has been drawn for the 2015 Japan Cup to be run on Sunday, November 29 at Tokyo Racecourse.

Lovely Day has been a great 2015 season with six wins in eight starts including a couple of grade one scores. 
Mikki Queen, one of the prominent 3-year-old fillies, having gained a couple of filly classics, will meet the older top company after bypassing the QE II Cup.
Multiple grade one winner Gold Ship, well-beaten in the Takarazuka Kinen last time out, needs a good start off the gate.
A foreign-trained horse has not won since 2005 when Alkaased(USA) became the Japan Cup hero in record time. 
Erupt(IRE), one of the four foreign entries, has a good chance if he handles the firm ground. 
Ito(GER) may make a good run of form at the front.

The longest priced winner in the last 10 years was Screen Hero, who paid 4,100 jpn yen for win as ninth favorites.

Smart Odin late charge in Tokyo Sports Hai

Smart Odin came from far behind, winning the Tokyo Sports Hai Nisai Stakes for 2-year-olds on Monday at Tokyo Race Course. Yutaka Take was aboard the winner to cover the 1,800-meter distance in 1 minute 49.50 seconds on firm ground. A length behind, Prodigal Son was second with another neck further back Meiner Raflesia third.
Smart Odin is a 2-year-old dark bay colt by Danon Chantilly out of Lady Upstage, by Alzao.

Maurice confirms best miler in Mile Championship

Maurice proved himself the best miler in the country when he won the Mile Championship on Sunday at Kyoto Race Course. In the hands of Ryan Moore, Maurice rallied on the stretch to win the grade one 1,600-meter race in 1 minute 32.80 seconds on firm ground. A 1 1/4-length behind, Fiero finished second with another neck back Isla Bonita third. Satono Aladdin finished, another nose back, fourth.

Maurice won the Yasuda Kinen last June to dominate the grade one mile division this season. Trained by N. Hori and owned by K. Yoshida, he has now registered seventh victory of his 12 races with more than 313 million jpn yen in career earnings.
Maurice, a 4-year-old bay colt by Screen Hero out of the Carnegie mare Mejiro Frances, was bred by Togawa Farm.

Field set for 2015 Mile Champ

A maximum field of 18 horses assembles for the Mile Championship for 3-year-olds and upward on the Kyoto 1,600-meter turf course on Sunday.

Isla Bonita, winner of the 2014 Satsuki Sho, swiches to the mile event after finishing third in the Tenno Sho Autumn. This colt aims at the first victory since last year in the St. Lite Kinen.
Satono Aladdin, second in the Oct. 24 Fuji Stakes last outing, has shown good form of run at the grade level.
Fiero, runner-up in this race last year, seeks the first grade victory off second in the Oct. 31 Swan Stakes.
Maurice has won last four outings including the Yasuda Kinen last time out and will return to the course off 

more than five-month layoff.

Marialite triumphs QE II Cup

In the hands of Masayoshi Ebina, Mrialite pulled away from the rest at around 200 meters from home and denied challenge by Nuovo Record and Touching Speech to win the grade one 2,200-meter Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Kyoto Race Course on Sunday. The 4-year-old dark bay filly won it by a neck from Nuovo Record in 2 minutes 14.90 on relatively soft ground. Another nose back, Touching Speech got third with another 1/2-length further back Rouge Buck fourth.
Bred by Northern Farm, Marialite has now won five of her 13 races for trainer T. Kubota and owner Carrot Farm. Her career earnings improved more than 175 million jp yen.
Marialite is a daughter of Deep Impact and Chrysoprase, by El Condor Pasa.

Yamakatsu Ace takes Fukushima
Yamakatsu Ace dueled with Mitra before winning the grade three Fukushima Kinen at Fukushima Race Course on Sunday. Akihide Tsumura rode the winner, covering the 2,000-meter trip in 2 minutes 2.50 seconds. A length behind, Mitra finished second with another 2-length back Phantom Light third.
Yamakatsu Ace is a 3-year-old chestnut colt by King Kamehameha out of Yamakatsu Marilyn, by Grass Wonder.

Nonkono Yume wins Musashino S in photo finish

Nonkono Yume just got up into the line in time to win the Musashino Stakes in a photo finish at Tokyo on Saturday. Christophe Lemaire guided the winner to complete the 1,600-meter dirt trip in 1 minute 34.70 seconds. A nose behind, Tagano Tonnerre came second with another 2-length back Moanin(USA) third.
Nonkono Yume is a 3-year-old colt by Twining out of Nonko, by Agnes Tachyon.

Air Spinel romps Daily Hai Nisai S
Air Spinel, ridden by Yutaka Take, produced a late charge to win the Daily Hai Nisai Stakes in 1 minute 35.90 seconds on soft ground at Kyoto on Saturday. Shuji came second, a 3 1/2-length behind, with Noble Mars antoher 1/2-length away third.

Field set for QE 2 Cup

A total of 18 fillies and mares have been entered to the grade one Queen Elizabeth 2 Cup on Sunday at Kyoto Race Course.

Lachesis, to be ridden by Ryan Moore, winner of this race last season, who made good efforts against male runners on recent runs, will break from post 10.
Nuovo Record, winner of the 2014 Japanese Oaks, who finished second in the All Comers last outing, has run well in the male grade company. She has the outside post 18.
Rouge Buck, one of the talented 3-year-old fillies, returns to the course since finishing second in the Japanese Oaks behind Mikki Queen. The long setback could be a negative material. She will break from post 15. 
Touching Speech, winner of the Rose Stakes, will break from post 8 to bounce back from sixth in the g1 Shuka Sho.

Favorite wins Copa Republica Argentina

Hayato Yoshida on race favorite Gold Actor drew upon to Meisho Kadomatsu by every stride and just got up in the nick of time, winning the grade two Copa Republica Argentina in 2 minutes 34.00 seconds on the Tokyo 2,500-meter course on soft ground. A head behind, Meisho Kadomatsu came second with another 2 1/2-length away Reve Mistral third.
Gold Actor is a 4year-old seal brown colt by Screen Hero out of Heilong Xing, by Kyowa Alysheba.

Roi Jardin upsets Miyako S
7th favorite Roi Jardin took the inside path in the final stage to win the grade three 1,800-meter Miyako Stakes under Suguru Hamanaka in 1 minute 47.80 seconds on sloppy surface at Kyoto on Sunday. Before a head victory, he had to deny challenge by Kazenoko. A head separated the two. Another neck behind, Roman Legend finished third.

Ball Lightning wins Keio Hai Nisai S

Ball Lightning with Masayoshi Ebina up took a good position to win the grade two Keio Hai Nisai Stakes for 2-year-olds at Tokyo on Saturday. The Daiwa Major colt won it by a 1 1/4-length from Admire Morale in 1 minute 22.60 seconds on firm ground. Third was, another nose behind, Shadow Approroach.

Candy Barows takes Fantasy S
Christophe Lemaire forced Candy Barows into contention in the very final stage and just got up in the nick of time to win the grade three KBS Kyoto Sho Fantasy Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Kyoto on Saturday. The final time for the 1,400-meter turf race was 1 minute 21.0 seconds. A head behind, Medjerda finished second with another neck back Blanc Bonheur third.

Copano Rickey wins JBC Classic two consecutive years

Yutaka Take' steered Copano Rickey led the field of 16 from the start and went all the way, winning the JBC Classic in two consecutive years on Tuesday. The final time was 2 minutes 4.40 seconds on the Ohi 2,000-meter dirt track.
Sound True came second, a 2 1/2-length behind, with race favorite Hokko Tarumae finishing another 1/2-length back in third. Fourth was Chrysolite followed by Happy Sprint.
Copano Rickey, trained at JRA Ritto by A. Murayama, is a 5-year-old chestnut horse by Gold Allure out of Copano Nikita, by Timber Country.

Corin Berry wire-to-wire victory in JBC Sprint
Corin Berry led all the way to win the JBC Sprint under Kohei Matsuyama in 1 minute 10.90 seconds. Race favorite Danon Legend(USA) finished second, a 3/4-length behind, with Best Warrior(USA) third and Laser Bullet fourth.
Corin Berry, trained at JRA Miho by J. Ono, is a 4-year-old chestnut filly by South Vigorous out of Korin la Vie En, by Mythic Tribe.

White Fugue romps JBC Ladies' Classic
White Fugue, ridden by Takuya Ono, put her neck into the front at around 200 meters from home, and yet she won the JBC Ladies' Classic by a decisive 5-length from Sambista in 1 minute 51.50 seconds. Third was, another 2 1/2-length behind, Trois Bonheur with Amour Briller(USA) another 1/2-length away fourth.
White Fugue, trained at JRA Miho by N. Takagi, is a 3-year-old grey filly by Kurofune out of Marine Winner, by Fuji Kiseki.

What a Lovely Day in Tenno Sho Autumn

What a lovely season he has! His name is Lovely Day, who just gained the sixth grade victory of the season as he won the Tenno Sho Autumn at Tokyo Race Course this afternoon.
Jockey Suguru Hamanaka reunited him to travel the 2,000-meter distance in 1 minute 58.40 seconds for  the final time of the Tenno Sho.
Lovely Day strode clear when leaving the 200-meter maker. Staphanos, Isla Bonita and Shonan Pandora chased after him, but neither of them could catch him.
Staphanos came second, a 1/2-length behind the winner. Another 3/4 length back, Isla Bonita came third with Shonan Pandora fourth and Ambitious fifth.

Lovely Day has raced in the color of K. Makoto Holding Co. and the saddle of tainer Y. Ikee with nine wins in 25 career starts. His career earnings improved to more than 647 million jp yen.
Bred by Northern Farm, Lovely Day is a 5-year-old dark bay horse by King Kamehameha out of Popcorn Jazz, by Dance in the Dark.
