Fields of this Sunday's JRA graded races


A total of 16 horses have been entered to the grade three Negishi Stakes at Tokyo on Sunday.
Wide Bach and Air Khalifa(USA), who finished first and second in the g3 Musashino Stakes respectively, could be the main contenders. Wide Bach drew post 13, while Air Khalifa drew post 6.
Logotype, winner of the 2013 Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas), is running on dirt surface for the first time. He drew post 1.

Courir Kaiser takes AJCC


Courir Kaiser took a good position in a 2,200-meter trip, winning the grade two American Jockey Club Cup at Nakayama on Sunday. Hironobu Tanabe rode the winner with the final time of 2 minutes 13.60 seconds.
A 1/4-length back, Mitra was second with another 1/2-length further back Air Saumur third. Heavy favorite Gold Ship finished a disappointing seventh in the field of 17.
Courir Kaiser is a 6-year-old horse by King Halo out of Smile Contest, by Soccer Boy.

Copano Rickey romps Tokai Stakes
Copano Rickey chased the pace to win the grade two Tokai Stakes in 1 minute 50.90 seconds under Yutaka Take at Chukyo on Sunday. Grand City finished a 4-length behind the winner in second with Incantation another nose back third.
Copano Rickey is a 5-year-old horse by Gold Allure out of the Timber Country mare Copano Nikita.

Keiai Elegant victory in Kyoto Himba S


Keiai Elegant was never behind during the 1,600-meter trip to win the grade three Kyoto Himba Stakes in 1 minute 33.90 seconds under Hiroyuki Uchida at Kyoto this afternoon.
Golden Numbe, a neck behind, came second with another 3/4-length further away Power Spot third.
Keiai Elegant is a 6-year-old mare by King Kamahamaha out of Post Parade, by A.P. Indy.

Gold Ship tops AJC Cup


Gold Ship tops a field of the American Jockey Club Cup at Nakayama on Sunday.
The 6-year-old gray horse will make his first start of the season after finishing third in the Arima Kinen last December.
The main opponents to Gold Ship could be grade two Mainichi Okan winner Air Saumur and Fame Game, winner of the grade two Copa Republica Argentina.

Exciting finish in Keisei Hai


Four of the 17 horses made an exciting finish in the grade three Keisei Hai at Nakayama on Sunday. The winner went to Beruf, who beat Black Bago by a nose. Kluger, another neck back, finished third with another nose further back Sole Impact fourth. Yuga Kawada was aboard the winner, completing the 2,000-meter turf trip in 2 minutes 2.30 seconds.
Beruf is a 3-year-old colt by Harbinger out of the Sunday Silence mare Les Clefs d'Or.

Admire Deus wins Nikkei Shinshun Hai
Admire Deus returned to the course off more than six-month layoff with a big success when he won the Nikkei Shinshun Hai this afternoon at Kyoto Race Course. Yasunari Iwata guided him to a 3/4-length victory in the grade two 2,400-meter race. Hula Bride finished a 3/4-length before Admire Flight in second. 
Admire Deus finished seventh in the Japanese Derby last season before victory in the Nikkei Shinshun Hai. Admire Deus is a son of Admire Don and Royal Card, by Sunday Silence.

Not Formal wins Fairy Stakes


Not Formal was ahead of the rest from start to finish, winning the grade three Fairy Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Nakayama on Monday. Hiroto Mayuzumi rode the winner to cover the 1,600-meter distance in 1 minute 35.20 seconds on firm ground.
A 3/4-length behind, Loaded was second with another 3/4-length further back Tenderly Voice third in the field of 16.

Not Formal is a daughter of Vermilion and Limiter Break, by Manhattan Cafe.

Thrilling finish in Shinzan Kinen


After a thrilling finish at Kyoto Race Course, the grade three Shinzan Kinen was won this afternoon by Guanciale, ridden by Yutaka Take, who got up to the line in 1 minute 34.80 seconds over 1,600 meters on frim ground.
A head behind the winner, Lord Felice finished second with another nose back Navion third. Dashing Blaze(USA), another neck back, got fourth in the field of 12.

Guanciale is a 3-year-old colt by Screen Hero out of the Diablo mare Chuo Saya.

Gentildonna 2014 Horse of Year


Gentildonna was named the 2014 Horse of Year today. She was also awarded the JRA best older female.
Gentildonna has been retired from racing after winning the Arima Kinen and will go back to Northern Farm where she was born. She will be bred to either Harbinger or King Kamehameha for 2015 breeding season.
Gentildonna, a daughter of Deep Impact and Donna Blini, by Bertolini, was retired with 10 wins of 19 career starts including 10 grade/group one victories and career earnings of 1.7+ billion jpn yen.

Just a Way, a son of Heart's Cry and Sibyl, by Wild Again, who was awarded the JRA best older male, has been retired from racing and will go to stud at Shadai Stallion Station. His fee is 3.5 million jpn yen.
Just a Way ended his racing career with six wins in 22 starts and 909+ million jpn yen in earnings.

Lovely Day wins Nakayama Kimpai in record time


Lovely Day flew past Logo Type near the line to win the grade three Nakayama Kimpai at Nakayama Race Course. Francis Berry was aboard the winner, covering the  2,000-meter trip in the course record of 1 minute 57.80 seconds on firm ground.
Logo Type got second, a 1 1/4-length behind, with another 3/4-length back Deus Vult third.
Lovely Day is a 5-year-old horse by King Kamehameha out of Popcorn Jazz, by Dance in the Dark.

Win Full Bloom takes Kyoto Kimpai
Win Full Bloom led the field of 18 to gain victory in the grade three Kyoto Kimpai at Kyoto Race Course. Before a neck victory, the 4-year-old colt denied challege by Extra End. Third was, another 1/2-length back, Meiner Merienda.
Win Full Bloom is a son of Special Week and the Sakura Yutaka O mare Hanano Megami.
