Arlington Cup result


The Arlington Cup for 3-year-olds ended with a thrilling finish by four runners. The winnter went to Young Man Power, who beat Arma Waioli by a neck. Another nose behind, Matenro Happiness was third with Navion another nose further away fourh. Masami Matsuoka rode the winner, covering the 1,600-meter trip in 1 minute 35.9 seconds.
Young Man Power is a 3-year-old colt by Snitzel out of Snapshot by Sunday Silence.

Last year's 3-year-old classic winners, Nuovo Record and Isla Bonita, clashes in Sunday's Nakayama Kinen at Nakayama. 
Nuovo Record won the Japanese Oaks, while Isla Bonita was a hero of the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas).

Horse Racing News on Feb. 26, 2015


This week JRA graded races
This Sunday sees the Nakayama Kinen for 4yo+ at Nakayama over 1,800 meters on turf. 13 horses have been nominated to the grade two race.

The Hankyu Hai is run on Sunday at Hanshin Race Course. A total of 33 horses have been nominated to the 1,400-meter turf race.

A total of 15 horses including a NAR horse have been nominated to the grade three 1,600-meter Arlington Cup for 3-year-olds at Hanshin on Saturday.

Two HK horses, Aerovelocity(NZ) and Lucky Nine(IRE), have been nominated to the grade one Takamatsunomiya Kinen at Chukyo.

Copan Rickey, recent winner of the February Stakes,  has injured his left front leg. The injury was found out the next day of the February Stakes. He will be out of action at least six months.

Copano Rickey claims his second February Stakes victory


Copano Rickey became the first horse to win the Feburary Stakes in two consecutive years as he claimed a 1/2-length victory in the 1,600-meter grade one race on the Tokyo dirt track today.
Yutaka Take forced Copano Rickey to take the lead with 400 meters to go before getting up to the winning post in 1 minute 36.30 seconds. Incantation finished a 3/4-length before Best Warroir(USA) in third.

Copano Rickey, a 5-year-old horse by Gold Allure out of Copano Nikita, by Timber Country, has now won nine in 16 career starts for owner S. Kobayashi and trainer A. Murayama. His career earnings brought up to more than 497 million jpn yen. Yanagawa Farm was the breeder of the 5-year-old chestnut.

Curren Black Hill victory in Kokura Daishoten
In the hands of Shinichiro Akiyama, Curren Black Hill stalked the pace to win the grade three Kokura Daishoten in 1 minute 48.30 seconds on the muddy Kokura course.
Cosmo Thorn Park, a 1/2-length behind, was second with another 1/2-length back D'accord third.
Curren Black His is a 6-year-old horse by Daiwa Major out of Charleston Harbor, by Grindstone.

Fame Game wins Diamond S


Fame Game won the Diamond Stakes, the grade three 3,400-meter race, in two consecutive years at Tokyo on Saturday.
He won it by a decisive 2-length in 3 minutes 31.90 seconds. The winning rider was Hiroshi Kitamura. Fata Morgana finished a 1 1/2-length in front of Comfy in third.
Fame Game is a 5-year-old horse by Heart's Cry out of Hall of Fame, by Allez Milord.

Copano Rickey tops among 16 entrants when he lineups in the grade one February Stakes on Sunday at Tokyo Racecourse. The 5-year-old horse won this race last tearm and came here with victory in the grade three Tokai Stakes.

Lovely Day wins Kyoto Kinen, Kizuna narrow third


Lovely Day stalked the pace to win the grade two Kyoto Kinen at Kyoto this afternoon. Keita Tosaki guided the winner with the final time of 2 minutes 11.40 seconds for the 2,200-meter distance. Suzuka Devious, who set the pace, finished second, a nose behind the winner. Another neck behind, Kizuna finished third. Harp Star finished fifth in the field of 11.
Lovely Day is a 5-year-old horse by King Kamehameha out of Popcorn Jazz, by Dance in the Dark.

Real Steel makes 2 for 2 in Kyodo News
Real Steel won the Kyodo News Service Hai in 1 minute 47.10 seconds to extend his winning streak to two. Yuichi Fukunaga was aboard the winner.
Duranmente, a 1/2-length behind, finished second with another 1 1/4-length further away Ambitious third.
Real Steel is a 3-year-old colt by Deep Impact out of Loves Only Me, by Storm Cat.

Legende wins at debut
Legende, a full brother of Gentildonna, made a successful debut at Kyoto, winning the make debut race by a 3/4-length.

Cat Coin remains undefeated


Cat Coin remained undefeated in three starts as she won the Daily Hai Queen Cup under Yoshitomi Shiba at Tokyo Saturday. Shibata drew out 200 meters out to win the 1,600-meter race in 1 minute 34.00 seconds. Second was, a neck behind, Mikki Queen with another neck further back Roca third.
Cat Coin is a 3-year-old filly by Stay Gold out of Stray Cat, by Storm Cat.

Gentildonna's brother makes a debut


Legende, a full brother of Gentildonna, will make a debut when he lineups in the 6th race at Kyoto on Sunday. Legende is a 3-year-old colt by Deep Impact out of Donna Blini, by Bertolini.

This week's JRA graded races


12 horses have been nominated to the grade two Kyoto Kinen at Kyoto Racecourse over 2,200 meters on Sunday. The nominations includes Kizuna and Harp Star.

The grade three Kyodo News Services Hai for 3-year-olds is run on Sunday at Tokyo Racecourse. 14 horses have been nominated to the 1,800-meter race.

Saturday's main event at Tokyo will be the grade three Queen Cup. A total of 18 three-year-old fillies have been nominated to the 1,600-meter event.

Rouge Buck triumphs Kisaragi Sho


Rouge Buck became the first filly in 51 years to win the grade three Kisaragi Sho under the hands of Keita Tosaki at Kyoto Sunday afternoon. She produced a sensational turn of foot down the stretch before getting past the winning post. 
Porte d' Auteuil came second, a 2-length behind, with another length back Ash Gold third in the field of prospective eight 3-year-olds. The final time of the 1,800-meter turf trip was 1 minute 48.60 seconds. 
Rouge Buck is a 3-year-old filly by Manhatan Cafe out of Ginger Punch, by Awesome Again.

Vincennes takes Tokyo Shimbun Hai
Vincennes pulled away from the rest outside 200 meters from home to win the grade three Tokyo Shimbun Hai at Tokyou on Sunday.
Second was, a neck behind, Alfredo with another neck away Fluky third.
Yuichi Fukunaga was aboard the winner, to cover the 1,600-meter distance in 1 minute 35.70 seconds on good ground.
Vincennes is a 6-year-old horse by Deep Impact out of Flower Park, by Nihon Pillow Winner.

Four horses to run in Australia


To the World, Tosen Stardom, World Ace and Real Impact will be heading for Australia.

The major object for To the World and Tosen Stardom will be the April 11 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Randwick Racecourse. They may run a prep before that race.
World Ace and Real Impact will go for the April 11 Doncaster Mile at Royal Randwick. Before the Mile race, they may run in the George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.

The four horses are scheduled to leave Japan for Australia on February 24.

Two foreign jockeys gain JRA license


Christophe Lemaire and Micro Demuro became the first foreign jockey to gain official license to ride at JRA after passing the JRA examination. The two can ride regularly at JRA races.

Stay Gold dies 
Stay Gold(Sunday Silence - Golden Sash, by Dictus) died at Breeders Stallion Center on Thursday. The cause of his death is now under investigation.
He sired great runners such as Orfevre, Dream Journey, Gold Ship and Fenomeno.

Air Khalifa(USA) victory in Negishi Stakes


Air Khalifa(USA) produced a superb late stride in the last 100 meters to win the grade three Negishi Stakes at Tokyo on Sunday. Kosei Miura was aboard the winner, running the 1,400-meter distance in 1 minute 23.40 seconds on dirt.
A length behind the winner, Wide Bach was second with another 1/2-length away Admire Royal third.
Air Khalifa is a 6-year-old horse by Discreet Cat out of Chez La Femme, by Afternoon Deelites.

Am Ball Bleiben win Silk Road S
Am Ball Bleiben set the pace to win the grade three Silk Road Stakes under Ken Tanaka at Kyoto on Sunday. The final time for the 1,200-meter turf trip was 1 minute 7.90 seconds. Sudden Storm came second, a 3/4-length behind, with another 1/2-length back Seiko Raiko third.
Am Ball Bleiben is a 6-year-old mare by Rule of Law out of the Splendid Moment mare Cherry Koman.
