Aerovelocity(NZ) wins Takamatsunomiya Kinen S for Hong Kong


The powerful finish of the Hong Kong champion Aerovelocity(NZ), ridden by Zachary Purton,  lauched in the grade one Takamatsunomiya Kine at Chukyo Race Course on Sunday. The 7-year-old gelding displayed a gutsy run in the stretch to win the 1,200-meter race in 1 minute 8.50 seconds on wet ground. A 1/2-length behind, Hakusan Moon was second with Mikki Isle finishing another nose back in third.
The three were clear of the rest in the final stage. Aerovelocity raced on the middle, and Purton just forced him ahead in the last stride.
Aerovelocity, trained by Paul O'Sullivan and owned by Ngai Daniel Yeung, is a 7-year-old gelding by Pins out of Exodus, by Kaapstad and has now won nine in 17 career starts with 303.5 million jpn yen in career earnings. N E Schick & S J Till was the breeder of the gelding.


Meiner Crop wins March Stakes
Meiner Crop got up in time to win the grade three March Stakes in 1 minute 52.70 seconds for the Hanshin 1,800-meter distance on dirt surface. Yuji Tannai was the winning rider.
Isshin Dotai finished, a head behind, second with another head away Masked Hero third.
Meiner Crop is a 5-year-old horse by Kurofune out of Great Harvest, by Sunday Silence.

Straight Girl early favorite for Takamatsunomiya Kinen


As of Saturday, Straight Girl has been installed as the 5.2(21-5) favorite for the wide-open Takamatsunomiya Kinen at Chukyo on Sunday.
Mikki Isle was the 5.4(22-5) second favorite followed by Aerovelocity(NZ) 5.7(47-10) third favorite.
Daiwa Maggiore was the 6.7(57-10) fourth favorite and Copano Richard 9.4(42-5) fifth favorite.

Admire Deus captures Nikkei Sho


Admire Deus rallied in the stretch to win the grade two Nikkei Sho at Nakayama Race Course on Saturday. The 4-year-old colt completed the 2,500-meter trip under Yasunari Iwata in 2 minutes 30.20 seconds on firm.
Win Variation finished, a 1 1/4-length behind, second with another head further away Hokko Brave third.
Admire Deus was produced by Admire Don and the Sunday Silence mare Royal Card.

Musee Alien takes Mainichi Hai
Musee Alien won the grade three Mainichi Hai in 1 minute 47.20 seconds for the 1,800-meter Hanshin course on Saturday.
Before a nose victory, Yuga Kawada-steered Musee Alien denied challege by Danon Liberty, who finished a 1/2-length before Ambitious in second.
Musee Alien is a 3-year-old colt by Screen Hero out of the El Condor Pasa mare Erstens.

A field of 18 horses is set to run for the Takamatsunomiya Kinen at Chukyo Race Course on Sunday.

Hong Kong champion Aerovelocity(NZ) drew post 4.  Daiwa Maggiore, winner of the Hankyu Hai, and Mikki Isle, second in the Hankyu, drew post 13 and 16 respectively.
Copano Richard, winner of last year, breaks from post 17. Straight Girl, third in the Hong Kong Mile race, has post 18.

Meisho Columbo wins NAR race


JRA trained-Meisho Columbo set the pace and went all the way to win the grade three 11-run Nagoya Daishoten at NAR Nagoya track on Thursday. Koshiro Take rode the winner to cover the 1,900-meter distance in 2 minutes 0.80 second on fast track.
A 1/2-length behind, Asia Express was second with Feel the Smart finishing another 9-length away in third.
Meisho Columbo is a 5-year-old horse by Manhattan Cafe out of Meisho Haab, by Erhaab.

JRA graded races on March 28 and 29


A total of 20 horses including Hong Kong champion Aerovelocity(NZ) have been nominated to the grade oneTakamatsunomiya Kinen to be run on Sunday at Chukyo Race Course over 1,200 meters on turf.

The main event at the Nakayama Sunday meeting will be the grade three March Stake s to which a total of 33 horses have been nominated. The race is run over 1,800 meters on dirt.

Hanshin features the grade three Mainichi Hai, considered the final prep race for the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas), on Saturday. A total of 18 colts have been nominated to the 1,800-meter turf race.

Nakayama's main event on Saturday will be the grade two Nikkei Sho. 12 horses remains on the final nomination stage of the 2,500-meter race.

Kitasan Black three straight win in Spring Stakes


Kitasan Black remained a perfect record when he won the Spring Stakes at Nakayama Race Course on Sunday. Hiroshi Kitamura was aboard the winner to cover the 1,800-meter race in 1 minute 49.10 seconds. A neck behind, Real Steel was second with Danon Platina another 3/4-length away third.
Kitasan Black, a 3-year-old colt by Black Tide out of Sugar Heart, by Sakura Bakushin O, has now registered 3 for 3.

Gold Ship wins Hanshin Daishoten for 3 consecutive years
Gold Ship won the Hanshin Daishoten in three consecutive years as he claimed a 1 1/4-length victory at Hanshin Race Course on Sunday. Yasunari Iwata was the winning rider. The final time was 3 minutes 5.90 seconds for the 3,000-meter distance.
Denimi and Ruby finished second with another 3-length back Last Impact third.
Gold Ship is a 6-year-old gray horse by Stay Gold out of the Mejiro McQueen mare Point Flag.

Exciting finish in Falcon S


The Falcon Stakes ended up with an exciting three-way battle. The winner went to Tagano Azaghal, who beat Active Minoru by a nose with Yamakatsu Ace finishing another nose back in third.
Under Daisaku Matsuda, Tagano Azaghal completed the 1,400-meter turf trip in 1 minute 22.90 seconds.
Tagano Azaghal is a 3-year-old colt by Bago out of the Admire Vega mare Lyre Melody.

Albiano(USA) takes Flower Cup
Albiano(USA) won the grade three Flower Cup to remain unbeaten in three starts. Yuichi Shibayama-steered Albiano set the pace from start and went all the way to finish the winning post in 1 minute 49.40 seconds for the 1,800-meter trip at Nakayama Race Course.
A 1 1/2-length behind, Earthrise was second with another nose away Dear My Darling third.
Albiano is a 3-year-old filly by  Harlan's Holiday out of Antics, by Unbridled.

This week's JRA graded races


This Sunday sees the Spring Stakes, one of the major preps for the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas), at Nakayama. 12 colts have been nominated to the grade two 1,800-meter race.

A total of 11 horses including Gold Ship and Toho Jackal have been nominated to Sunday's Hanshin Daishoten at Hanshin Race Course over 3,000 meters on turf.

The Flower Cup for 3-year-old fillies will be run at Nakayama Race Coruse on Saturday. A total of 21 fillies have been nominated to the grade three 1,800-meter turf race.

Qeens Ring come-from-behind victory in Fillies' Revue


Queens Ring raced well off the pace and displayed an explosive late run in the stretch, winning the grade two Fillies' Revue for 3-year-old fillies at Hanshin Race Course on Sunday. Ridden by Mirco Demuro, the Manhattan Cafe filly completed the 1,400-meter trip in 1 minute 22.50 seconds on firm ground.A 3/4-length behind, Perfica was second with Moon Express another 1/2-length back third.
Queens Ring out of Aqua Ring, by Anabaa, has now won three in as many starts and will go for the Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas) next month.

Bounce Shasse wins Nakayama Himba S
Bounce Shasse won the grade three 1,800-meter Nakayama Himba Stakes under Hironobu Tanabe in 1 minute 47.50 seconds on firm ground. Ice Follies was, a neck behind, second with Power Spot finishing another length back in third.
Bounce Shasse is a 4-year-old filly by Zenno Rob Roy out of the Hailing mare Rick Dancer.

Decipher wins Chunichi Shimbun Hai


Decipher produced a superb late run to win the grade three Chunichi Shimbun Hai at Chukyo Race Coruse on Saturday. Hirofumi Shii was aboard the winner, covering the 2,000-meter distance in 2 minutes 1.20 seconds on firm ground.
Deus Vult wore Meiner Milano down by a 1/2-length for second. Meiner Milano, who set the pace from start, was third in the field of 18.
Deciper is a 6-year-old horse by Deep Impact out of Mizna, by Dubai Millennium.

A total of 26 fillies have been nominated to the grade two Fillies' Revue, one of the major preps for the Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas) at Hanshin over 1,400 meters on Sunday.

The main event at Sunday's Nakayama meeting will be the Nakayama Himba Stakes for 4-year-olds and up fillies and mares. A total of 17 horses have been nominated to the grade three 1,800-meter turf event.

The grade three Chunichi Shimbun Hai for 4-year-olds and up will be held on Saturday at Chukyo Race Course. A total of 18 horses have been nominated to the 2,000-meter race.

Soumillon to ride Epiphaneia in Dubai


Epiphaneia, one of the seven Japanese horses who are being sent to Dubai, will reunite Christophe Soumillon in the Dubai race. Soumillon guided him to an impressive victory in the Japan Cup last November.

One Hong Kong entry to Takamatsunomiya Kinen
Lucky Nine(IRE) withdrew from nomination of the Takamatsunomiya Kinen, while Aerovelocity(NZ) will arrive in Japan on March 17 to run in the Takamatsunomiya Kinen, held at Chukyo on March 29.

Satono Crown remains undefeated with Yayoi victory


Having raced off the pace, Satono Crown drew away from the rest to win the Hochi Hai Yayoi Sho at Nakayama on Sunday. A 1 1/2-length behind, Bright Emblem was second with another 2 1/2-length back Tagano Espresso third. Race favorite Shining Lei finished 7th in the field of 11.
Yuichi Fukunaga rode the winner to reach the post in 2 minutes 1.80 seconds for the 2,000-meter distance on good ground.
Satono Crown, a 3-year-old colt by Marju out of the Rossini mare Jioconda, has now won 3 without lose.

Kokorono Ai triumphs Tulip Sho


Kokorono Ai triumphed the Tulip Sho under Norihiro Yokoyama in the muddy Hanshin course on Satuday. With 200 meters to go, the Stay Gold filly got past Let's Go Donki on her way to winning the 1,600-meter race in 1 minute 37.70 seconds. A 1 1/4-length behind, Andriette was second place with another 3/4-length further back Let's Go Donki third.
Kokorono Ai is a 3-year-old filly out of Beauty Song, by Danehill.

Tosaki guides Sakura Gospel to Ocean Stakes victory
As one of his five winning rides on the day, Keita Tosaki guided Sakura Gospel to a 3/4-length victory in the grade three Ocean Stakes on Saturday. The final time was 1 minute 8.70 seconds for the Nakayama 1,200-meter course on good ground. Hakusan Moon, who led the field of 16, finished a 3/4-length behind the winner in second with Beste Geschenk another neck away third.
Sakura Gospel, who has now gained his second Ocean Stakes victory following 2013,  is a 7-year-old horse by Sakura President out of Sakura Blues, by Cure the Blues.

Nakayama Race Course features the Hochi Hai Yayoi Sho, one of the major preps for the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas), on Sunday.

Shining Lei, an undefeated colt who came off an impressive victory in the Hopeful Stakes, is likely to be the favorite for the 2,000-meter turf race.

Hanshin hosts the grade three Tulip Sho, one of major preps for the Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas), on Saturday.

Let's Go Donki, second in the grade one Hanshin Juvenile Fillies, breaks from post 15. Kobai Sho winner Contessa and Elphin Stakes winner Culminar have post 7 and 3 respectively. Kokorono Ai, third in the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies, breaks from post 14.

Nuovo Record takes Nakayama Kinen


Nuovo Record got past Logotype near the line to win the Nakayama Kinen on the muddy Nakayama course on Sunday. Logotype was, a neck behind, second with another 1 1/2-length further away Staphanos third. Yasunari Iwata was aboard the winner, traveling the 1,800-meter trip in 1 minute 50.30 seconds.
Nuovo Record is a 4-year-old filly by Heart's Cry out of Omega Spirit by Spinning World.

Daiwa Maggiore produces explosive late charge in Hankyu Hai
In the hands of Mirco Demuro Daiwa Maggiore produced an explosive late charge to win the grade three Hankyu Hai at Hanshin on Sunday. Mikki Isle was a nose short of the victory to finish second. Robe Tissage finishied a neck behind the runner-up to get third place. The winning time was 1 minute 23.80 for the 1,400-meter distance on relatively heavy ground.
Daiwa Maggiore is a 6-year-old horse by Daiwa Major out of the Law Society mare Fanjica.
