This week JRA graded races


This Sunday sees the 151th Tenno Sho Spring at Kyoto. A total of 18 horses including Kizuna and Gold Ship have been nominated to the grade one 3,200-meter traditional race.

A total of 19 horses have been nominated to the grade two Aoba Sho, one of the major preps for the Japanese Derby, at Tokyo on Saturday.

Sing with Joy takes Flora Stakes


The grade two Flora Stakes, one of the major preps for the Japanese Oaks, was won on Sunday at Tokyo by Sing with Joy, who stalked the pace to beat Dear My Darliing  by a neck. Another neck behind, Maximum de Paris was third. 
Hiroyuki Uchida was aboard the winner to cover the 2,000-meter tirp in 2 minutes 1.80 seconds.
Sing with Joy is a 3-year-old filly by Manhattan Cafe out of Sing Like Bird, by Symboli Kris S.

Red Arion wins Milers Cup
In the hands of Haruhiko Kawasu, Red Arion ran behind the leading pack to win the grade two Milers Cup at Kyoto on Sunday. The 5-year-old horse completed the 1,600-meter distance in 1 minute 32.60 seconds on firm.
Red Arion is a son of Agnes Tachyon and the Dancing Brave mare Erimo Pixy.

Sweet Salsa victory in Fukushim Himba Stakes
Sweet Salsa won the grade three Fukushim Himba Stakes for 4yo+ fillies and mares under Katsuharu Tanaka on Saturday at Fukushima Race Course. The final time for the 1,800-meter turf event was 1 minute 46 seconds flat. Lilavati came second, a neck behind, with another 3/4-length away Meisho Suzanna third.
Sweet Salsa is a 5-year-old mare by Durandal out of Sweet Habitat, by Grand Lodge.

Demuro guides Duramente to Satsuki Sho victory


Mirco Demuro guided Duramente to a 1 1/2-length victory in the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas) at Nakayama this afternoon. The Italian jockey 

has now registered the fourth Satsuki Sho victory.
Real Steel was a 2 1/2-length bettern than Kitasan Black to finish second. Bright Emblem was fourth with Clarity Sky fifth in the field of 15 colts.

Within 100 meters to go, Real Steel pulled away from the rest, but Duramente flied past him on the outside for an easy victory.

On the final turn, Duramente crossed widely when switching from inside to outside. "I got scared on the final turn, but he runs extremely well.", Demuro 
said.

Duramente has now won three in five start with more than 160 million jpn yen in career earnings for owner Sunday Racing Co. Ltd. and trainer N. Hori.
Northern Racing was the breeder of the 3-year-old bay colt, by King Kamehameha out of Admire Groove, by Sunday Silence.

Real Steel early favorite for 2015 Satsuki Sho


As of Saturday, Real Steel has been installed as the favorite for the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas) at odds of 3.7(27/10). Satono Crown was the second favorite at 4.0(3/1) followed by Duramente 4.6(18-5). Kitasan Black was the fourth favorite at 9.2(41/5) and Bright Emblem 9.8(44/5) to follow.


Kurino Star O victory in Antares Stakes
Sixth favorite Kurino Star O stalked the pace under the control of Hideaki Miyuki to win the grade three Antares Stakes in 1 minute 49.60 seconds on the Hanshin 1,800-meter dirt course.
A 1/2-length behind, favorite Asia Express(USA) finished second with another neck away Namura Victory third.
Kurio Star O is a 5-eyar-old horse by Admire Boss out of Mayano Starlight, by Jade Robbery.

Field set for Satsuki Sho


A field is set to run for the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas) at Nakayama Race Course on Sunday. A total of 15 colts have been entered to the grade one 2,000-meter classic race.

Satono Crown, undefeated clot in three starts, who comes into this classic off victory in the Yayoi Sho, drew post 8. Real Steel, winner of the Kyoto News Service Hai, who finished second in the Springs Stakes last outing, drew post 5. Duramente, who finished second in the Kyodo News Service Hai, drew post 2. Bright Emblem, second in the Yayoi Sho, drew post 1. Kitasan Black, a strong front runner who  remained undefeated with victory in the Springs Stakes, drew post 7.

This Week's JRA Graded Races


The 75th running of the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas) will be run on Sunday at Nakayama Race Course. A total of 19 colts have been nominated to the grade one 2,000-meter classic race.

Hanshin Race Course hosts the Antares Stakes for 4-year-olds and upward on Saturday. A total of 33 horses including NAR-trained Summit Stone have been nominated to the grade three 1,800-meter dirt event.

Let's Go Donki romps Oka Sho


Let's Go Donki romped the Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas) at Hanshin Race Course on Sunday. Yasunari Iwata guided her to a 4-length victory with the final time of 1 minute 36 seconds flat on good ground.
Culminar finished second with another 3/4-length away Contessa Thule third. Heavy favorite Rouge Buch failed to explode a late run to finish ninth in the field of 18 fillies.

Fifth favorite Let's Go Donki took a lead before the bend and went all the way to crossing the winning post. The pace was slow; the first 800-meter in 49 seconds flat.

Let's Go Donki, trained by T. Umeda and owned by T. Hirosaki,  has now improved her record to 6-2-2-2 with 176.9+ million jpn yen in career earnings. Shimizu Farm was the breeder of the 3-year-old chestnut filly, by King Kamehameha out of Mrutoku, by Marvelous Sunday.

Rouge Buck early favorite for Oka Sho


As of Saturday, Rouge Buck has been installed as the 1.8(4-5) favorite for the Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas) at Hanshin on Sunday.
Kokorono Ai was the second favorite at 6.1(51-10). Queens Ring was the 8.5(15-2) third favorite followed by Andriette 9.8(44-5).

Yamakatsu Ace captures New Zealand Trophy


Seventh favorite Yamakatsu Ace rallied on the stretch to win the grade two New Zealand Trophy on Saturday. The colt ran the 1,600-meter distance in 1 minute 34.80 seconds under Kenichi Ikezoe on the Nakayama turf course.
Grand Silk broke badly and came back to finish second, a 3/4-length behind the winner. Arma Waioli was, another head back, third.
Yamakatsu Ace is a 3-year-old colt by King Kamehameha out of Yamakatsu Marilyn, by Grass 
Wonder.

Cafe Briliant wins Hanshin Himba S
Fourth favorite Cafe Brilliant got past Belle Lumiere near the line to win the grade two Hanshin Himba Stakes at Hanshin Race Course on Saturday. Yuichi Fukunaga was aboard the winner to cover the 1,400-meter trip in 1 minute 21.10 seconds.
A neck behind, Belle Lumiere was second with another 1/2-length back Uliuli third.
Cafe Brilliant is a 5-year-old mare by Brian's Time out of Shimmei Minerva, by Caerleon.

2015 Oka Sho Field

A feild of 18 fillies is set for the Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas) at Hanshin Race Course on Sunday.
Rouge Buck, who beat classic prospecting colts in the Kisaragi Sho on her last time out, is likely to be the favorite. Keita Tosaki will ride her and breaks from post 8.
The main opponents to Rouge Buck could be: Kokorono Ai and Let's Go Donki, who finished first and third in the Tulip Sho; Queens Ring, winner of the Fillies' Revue and Queen Cup winner Cat Coin.

Lachesis beats Kizuna in Osaka Hai


After a short duel with Kizuna in the stretch, Lachesis won the Sankei Osaka Hai under Christophe Lemaire at Hanshin Race Course on Sunday. Kizuna was, a 2-length behind, second place. Another 3-length further away, Air Saumur was third with Spielberg fourth. The final time for the 2,000-meter on the muddy ground was 2 minutes 2.90 seconds.
Lachesis is a 5-year-old mare by Deep Impact out of Magic Storm, by Storm Cat.

Maurice romps Lord Derby
Maurice romped the Lord Derby Challenge Trophy under Keita Tosaki at Nakayama Race Course on Sunday. The Screen Hero colt covered the 1,600-meter trip in 1 minute 32.20 seconds. Second was, a 3 1/2-length behind, Clarity City with Impulse Hero another neck further back third.
Maurice is a 4-year-old colt out of Mejiro Frances, by Carnegie.

This Sunday's JRA Graded Races


The grade two Sakei Osaka Hai will be run at Hanshin Race Course. 15 horses including Kizuna and Spielberg have been nominated to the 2,000-meter turf race.

Nakayama features the grade three 1,600-meter Lord Derby Challenge Trophy to which a total of 26 horses have been nominated.
