Duramente makes Satsuki-Derby double


Duramente, winner of the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas) gained the second classic victory when he won the Tokyo Yushun(Japanese Derby) at Tokyo Race Coruse this afternoon.
Mirco Demuro on Duramente rode the second Derby winner following Neo Universe.
Duramente, the favorite in the field of 18 colts, pulled away from the rest outside 200 meters from home to win the Japanese Derby, the premier classic for 3-year-olds, in 2 minutes 23.20 second over the 2,400-meter Tokyo turf.
A 1 3/4-length behind, Satono Rasen came second with another nose back Satono Crown third.

Duramente, a 3-year-old bay colt by King Kamehameha out of Admire Groove, by Sunday Silence, has now won four in six career starts for owner Sunday Racing Co. Ltd. and trainer N. Hori. His career earnings boosted to more than 392 million jp yen. Northern Racing was the breeder of Duramente.

Meguro Kinen won by Hit the Target
The grade two Meguro Kinen was won at Tokyo by Hit the Target, who beat Recondite by a 1 1/4-length. Fata Morgana came third, another 1/2-length behind.
Futoshi Komaki was aboard the winner to complete the 2,500-meter turf race in 2 minutes 29.70 seconds.
Hit the Target is a 7-year-old horse by King Kamehameha out of the Tamamo Cross mare Latir.

Duramente favorite for Japanese Derby


After closing betting round on Saturday, Dramente, winner of the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas) has been installed as the 2.4(7/5) favorite for the 2015 Tokyo Yushun(Japanese Derby). 
Real Steel, runner-up in the Satsuki Sho, was the 3.9(29/10) second favorite followed by Satono Crown 6.7(57/10).

Field set for 2015 Japanese Derby

A field for 18 colts is set to run in the 2015 Tokyo Yushun(known as the Japanese Derby) on Sunday at Tokyo Race Course.

Duramente, who gained an impressive victory in the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas), is likely to be the favorite for the premier classic race. Mirco Demuro will ride him, breaking from post 14.
Real Steel, who won the Kyodo News Service Hai where he beat Duramente, comes here with a runner-up in the Satsuki Sho. Yuichi Fukunaga will mount him and break from post 13.
Satono Crown, who has recorded his first defeat as he finished sixth in the Satsuki Sho, attempts to bounce back in this classic. Christophe Lemaire will ride him and break from post 11.
Reve Mistral, winner of the Aoba Sho, drew post 7. Porte d'Auteuil, runner-up in the Kyoto Shimbun Hai, drew post 6. Kitasan Black, third in the Satsuki Sho, breaks from post 17.

Mikki Queen produces strong late run in Oaks


Mikki Queen produced a sensational late run to win the 2015 Japaneses Oaks on Sunday at Tokyo Race Course. Ridden by Suguru Hamanaka, she got past Rouge Buck and Culminar in the very final stage, getting up to the winning post in 2 minutes 25.00 seconds on the 2,400-meter turf trip.
Rouge Buck, who took a lead before the 200-meter pole, gave way to finish a 3/4-length behind the winner in second. Another 1/2-length behind, Culminar finished third.

Mikki Queen has now won three in five starts for trainer Y. Ikee and owner for M. Noda. Her career earnings improved to more than 166 million jpy.
Bred by Northern Farm, Mikki Queen is a 3-year-old bay filly by Deep Impact out of Musical Way, by Gold Away.

Rouge Buck early favorite for Japanese Oaks


As of Saturday, Rouge Buck has been installed as the favorite for the 2015 Japanese Oaks at odds of 2.9(19-10). Let's Go Donki was the second favorite at 6.3(53-10) followed by Kokorono Ai 7.2(31-5). The rest of the field was 10.0(9-1) or higher.


Incantation wire-to-wire victory in Heian
Incantation had a wire-to-wire victory in the Heian Stakes on Saturday at Kyoto Race Course. Surprisingly, Hiroyuki Uchida took Incantation to go into front from start and was never behind, winning the 1,900-meter grade race in 1 minute 55.10 seconds on fast track.
A 1 3/4-length behind, Kurino Star O came second followed by Roman Legend third.
Incantation is a 5-year-old horse by Sinister Minister out of Original Spin, by Machiavellian.

Straight Girl takes Victoris Mile


Fifth favorite Straight Girl got up to the line in the nick of time to win the Victoria Mile on Sunday at Tokyo Race Course. Keita Tosaki rode the winner, completing the 1,600-meter distance in 1 minute 31.90 seconds. 12th favorite Keiai Elegant finished second, a head behind. Minaret, who dominated the pace, came another 1 3/4-length back third.

Straight Girl, a 6-year-old bay mare by Fuji Kiseki out of the Taiki Shuttle mare Never Period. Bred by TH Co.Ltd., Straight Girl has raced under the saddle of H. Fujiwara and the color of  T. Hirosaki

Sakura Gospel won the grade two Keio Hai Spring Cup in a blanket finish on Saturday at Tokyo Race Course. Keita Tosaki was aboard the winner to cover the 1,400-meter distance in 1 minute 21.60 seconds. A head behind, Vincennes came second with Omego Vendetta another 1/2-length back third.

Clarity City takes NHK Mile Cup


Clarity City, ridden by Norihiro Yokoyama, got past Albiano(USA) near the line, winning the NHK Mile Cup in 1 minute 33.50 seconds at Tokyo Race Course on Sunday. 
Albiano, who took a lead at around 400 meteres to go, came second, a length behind, with Musee Sultan another neck back third.
Clarity City, trained by Y. Tomomichi and owned by T. Sugiyama, has now won three in eight career starts with more than 164 million jpy in career earnings.
Taiki Clarity Partnership was the breeder of Clarity City, a 3-year-old bay colt by Kurofune out of the Special Week mare Taiki Clarity.

D'accord wins Niigata Daishoten
D'accord won the grade three Niigata Daishoten under Futoshi Komaki in 1 minute 59.60 seconds over the Niigata 2,000-meter turf course.
A 1 1/4-length behind, Nakayama Knight came second followed by Alfredo third.

As of Saturday, Musee Sultan has been installed as the 4.7(37/10) favorite for the 2015 wide-open NHK Mile Cup on Sunday at Toykyo Race Course.
Grand Silk was the 5.5(9/2) second favorite followed by Albiano(USA) 5.8(24/5). Avenir Marcher was the 7.2(31/5) fourth favorite follwed by Clarity City 9.4(42/5) and Arma Waioli 9.9(89/10).

Satono Rasen wins Kyoto Shimbun Hai
Satono Rasen denied challenges by Porte d'Auteuil and Alvert Dock to win the Kyoto Shimbun Hai in 2 minutes 11.30 seconds on Saturday at Kyoto Race Coruse. The winner rider was Yuga Kawada, who guided Satono Rase to a 1/2-length victory in the 2,200-meter turf event.
Second was Porte d'Auteuil, who finished a nose before Albert Dock.
Satono Rasen is a 3-year-old colt by Deep Impact out of the Intikhab mare Toupie.

Gold Ship take Tenno Sho Spring


Gold Ship, ridden by Norihiro Yokoyama, made an early move to win the Tenno Sho Spring at Kyoto Race Course on Sunday. The 6-year-old gray horse covered the 3,200-meter distance in 3 minutes 14.70 seconds.
Fame Game came second, a neck behind, with another 3/4-length away Curren Mirotic third. Race favorite Kizuna finished seventh in the field of 17.

Gold Ship, trained by N. Sugai and owned by KE Holdings LLC, has now registered the 6th grade one victory with 13 wins in 25 career starts and more than 1.3 billion jpn yen in career earnings.
