Lovely Day gains Takarazuka victory


Lovely Day stalked the pace and pulled away from the rest at 200 meters from home to gain the grade one Takarazuka Kinen victory on Sunday at Hanshin Racecourse. Yuga Kawada rode the winner to complete the 2,200-meter turf trip in 2 minutes 14.40 seconds.
Denim and Ruby came with a splendid late charge in the very late stage, but it was too late to catch the winner. She finished second, a neck behind. Another 1 1/4-length behind, Shonan Pandora came third. Race favorite Gold Ship was well behind at the start and never into contention in the race.

Lovely Day, a 5-year-old horse by King Kamehameha out of the Dance in the Dark mare Popcorn Jazz, has now won seven in 23 career starts with more than 428 million jp yen in career earnings   in the condition of Y. Ikee. The dark bay horse was bred by Kaneko Makoto Holdings, who also owns him.

Gold Ship early favorite for Takarazuka


As of Saturday, Gold Ship has been installed as the favorite for the 2015 Takarazuka Kinen at odds of 1.9(9/10). Lachesis was the second favorite at 5.5(9/2) followed by Nuovo Record 8.7(77/10).

Duramente suffers fractures


Duramente suffered distal radius fractures on his front legs at Northern Farm in Hayakita. 
The winner of the Japanese Derby and Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas) will be sidelined the remaining of the season. He may return to action next Spring.

Field set for 2015 Takarazuka Kinen


A field of 16 horses is set to run in the 2015 Takarazuka Kine on Sunday at Hanshin Race Course.

Multiple grade one winner Gold Ship, who seeks the Takarazuka Kinen victory in three consecutive years, drew post 15.
Lachesis, winner of the Sakei Osaka Hai, drew post 13. Nuovo Record drew post 11. Last year's Kikuka Sho(Japanese St.Leger) winner Toho Jackal drew post 14. One and Only has post 7. 

The post time for the spring grand prix race will be 3:40 p.m. JST on Sunday, June 28.

Hokko Tarumae gains second Teio Sho victory


Race favorite Hokko Tarumae gained his second Teio Sho victory when he beat Crysolite by a 2/3-length at Ohi track on Wednesday night. Ridden by Hideaki Miyuki, Hokko Tarumae took the lead by passing Chrysolite at around 200 meters from home on his way to getting up to the winning post in 2 minutes 2.70 seconds over the Ohi 2,000-meter dirt course.
Happy Spring, a 2 1/2-length behind Chrysolite, came third in the field of 12.

Hokko Tarumae, trained at Ritto by K. Nishiura, has now won 9th grade one dirt race. The 6-year-old bay horse was produced by King Kamehameha out of the Cherokee Run mare Madam Cherokee.

Nonkono Yume rallies in Unicorn Stakes


Nonkono Yume rallied in the stretch to win the grade three Unicorn Stakes at Tokyo on Sunday. The Twining 3-year-old colt completed the 1,600-meter in 1 minute 35.90 seconds under Christophe Lemaire on dirt.
Nobo Baccara came second, a 2 1/2-length behind, with another 2 1/2-length behind Altair third.
Nonkono Yume is out of Nonko, by Agnes Tachyon.


Teehaff romps Hakodate Sprint
Teehaff romped the grade three Hakodate Sprint Stakes by coming from behind. Yusaku Kokubun rode the winner to cover the 1,200-meter turf race in 1 minute 8.30 seconds.
A 2 1/2-length behind, Earth Sonic came second with another nose back Ren England third.
Teehaff is a 5-year-old horse by Storming Home out of the Green Desert mare Birjand.

16 three-year-old horses have been entered to the grade three Unicorn Stakes on Sunday at Tokyo Race Course over 1,600 meters on dirt.

Golden Barows(USA), who finished third in the UAE Derby in Dubai last outing, could be the one to watch. He has post 12.
Nonkono Yume and Altair, who finished first and second, respectively, in the Seiryu Stakes, have post 10 and 6 respectively.
Tap That, fifth in the UAE Derby, has post 14.

A Shin Hikari takes Epsom Cup


A Shin Hikari set the pace and went all the way to finish first in the grade three Epsom Cup for 3yo+ on Sunday at Tokyo Race Course. Yutaka Take was aboard the winner to complete the 1,800-meter distance in 1 minute 45.40 seconds.
A neck behind, race favorite Satono Aladdin came second with another neck behind Decipher third.
A Shin Hikari is a 4-year-old colt by Deep Impact out of Catalina, by Storm Cat.


Chateau Blanche wins Mermaid S
Chateau Blancsh, ridden by Kota Fujioka, produced a strong late run to win the grade Mermaid Stakes for 3yo+ fillies and mares at Hanshin Race Course on Sunday. The final time for the 2,000-meter turf race was 2 minutes 0.50 seconds.
Marialite finished, second, a 3/4-length behind the winner, with another head behind Power Spot third.
Chateau Blanche is a 5-year-old mare by King Halo out of the Tony Bin mare Blancherie.

Maurice proves himself the best miler in Yasuda


Maurice proved himeself the best miler when he won the Yasuda Kine this afternoon in 1 minute 32.00 seconds over the Tokyo 1,600-meter turf course. The winning rider was Yuga Kawada.
Race favorite Maurice drew away from the rest at around 200 meters to go and got up to the winning post. Before a neck victory, he had to deny challenge by Vincennes. Another 1 1/4-length behind, Clarent came third.
Maurice has now won six in 11 career starts in the color of K. Yoshida and the saddle of N. Hori with more than 209 million jpy in career earnings. Togawa Farm was the breeder of Maurice, a 4-year-old bay colt by Screen Hero out of Mejiro Frances, by Carnegie.

Maurice early favorite for 2015 Yasuda Kinen


As of Saturday, Maurice, winner of the Lord Derby Challenge Trophy, has been installed as the 3.8(14/5) for the Yasuda Kinen at Tokyo on Sunday.
Fiero, runner-up in the Mile Championship in 2014, was the 4.9(39/10) second favorite. Vincennes, winner of the Tokyo Shimbun Hai, was the 7.2(31/5) third favorite. 2014 NHK Mile Cup winner Mikki Isle was the 7.8(34/5) fourth favorite followed by Danon Shark, winner of the Mile Championship last year 2014, 9.3(83/10).

Saturday's main event at Hanshin was won by Lovely Day, who beat Majesty Heart by a decisive 2-length. Another neck behind, Azuma Shuttle came third.
Yasunari Iwata rode the winner to complete the 2,000-meter race in 1 minute 58.80 seconds on firm ground.
Lovely Day is a 5-year-old dark bay horse by King Kamehameha out of Popcorn Jazz, by Dance in the Dark.
