2015 Sprinters S Nominations


A total of 22 horses have been nominated to the 2015 Sprinters Stakes to be run on Sunday, October 4th at Nakayama.
The nominations include Uliuli, Bel Canto, Straight Girl, Mikki Isle, Ukiyono Kaze, Active Minoru and Hong Kong-trained Rich Tapestry(IRE).

Lia Fail wire-to-wire victory in Kobe


In the hands of Christophe Lemaire, Lia Fail was never behind during the 2,400-meter trip, winning the Kobe Shimbun Hai in 2 minutes 26.70 seconds at Hanshin on Sunday.
A 2-length behind, Real Steel came second with Tosen Basil another 2 1/2-length away third.

Lia Fail is a 3-year-old bay colt by Zenno Rob Roy out of Chrysoprase, by El Condor Pasa.

Shonan Pandora takes All Comers
Shonan Pandora displayed a superb turn of foot in the last 200 meters to win the grade two Sankei Sho All Comers at Nakayama on Sunday.
Kenichi Ikezoe rode the winning filly to cover the 2,200-meter race in 2 minutes 11.90 seconds on good ground. Second was, a 1 1/2-length behind, Nuovo Record with Mitra third, another 2-length back.

Shonan Pandora is a 4-year-old bay filly by Deep Impact out of the French Deputy mare Cutie Gold.

JRA Graded Races on Sunday, September 27


A field of 15 three-year-old colts is set to run in the Kobe Shimbun Hai, one of the major preps for the Kikuka Sho(Japanese St. Leger), at Hanshin on Sunday.

Real Steel, who performed well in the 3-year-old classics earlier this season, drew post 5.
Albert Dock, winner of the Shirayuri Stakes, drew post 7.
Kilohana, undefeated colt in two starts, who was out of action in the Spring campaign due to leg injury,  drew post 8.
Massabielle, three-time winner who runs in the grade company for the first time, drew post 15.

Kitasan Black takes St. Lite Kinen


Kitasan Black stalked the pace of Musee Alien to win the grade two Asahi Hai St. Lite Kinen at Nakayama on Monday. Hiroshi Kitamura was aboard the winner to complete the 2,200-meter distance in 2 minutes 13.80 seconds on firm ground.
Musee Alien came second, a 3/4-length behind, with Jun Tsubasa another head away third.
Kitasan Black is a 3-year-old bay colt by Black Tide out of Sugar Heart, by Sakura Bakushin O.

Kizuna retired
Kizuna, who suffered anothe leg injury(tendon), has been retired from racing. No determination has been made where he will stand.

Touching Speech come-from-behind victory in Rose S


Touching Speech came from far behind to win the Rose Stakes on Sunday. Christophe Lemaire rode her to stop the clock in 1 minute 45.20 seconds over the 1,800-meter Hanshin course on firm ground.
A 1 1/2-length behind, Mikki Queen came second with Tosen Victory finishing another 1 1/4-length behind in third.
Touching Speech is a 3-year-old bay filly by Deep Impact out of Listen, by Sadler's Wells.

Nakayama features the Asahi Hai St.Lite Kinen for 3-year-olds on Monday.

15 horses have been entered to the grade two St.Lite Kinen, one of the major preps for the Kikuka Sho(Japanese St. Leger).

Satono Rasen returns to the course since second in the Japanese Derby. He drew post 6.
Bright Emblem makes his first start since fourth in the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas). He drew post 12.
Beruf, the Kokura Kinen, drew post 3.
Kitasan Black, strong front runner who finished far behind in the Japanese Derby last outing, drew post 13.

This Sunday's JRA Graded Race: Rose Stakes


A total of 17 horses is set to run in the grade two Rose Stakes, one of the major preps for the grade one Shuka Sho, for 3-year-old fillies at Hanshin on Sunday.

Mikki Queen, who won the Japanese Oaks last outing, drew post 8.
Having won the last two outings, Tosen Victory faces the grade company for the first time. She drew post 13.
Let's Go Donki, who gained the Oka Sho victory before well-beating in the Japaneses Oaks, drew post 10.
Andriette, fifth in the Japanese Oaks, drew post 3.

Foreign nomination to 2015 Sprinters S


Two Hong Kong-tained horses, Lucky Nine(IRE) and Rich Tapestry(IRE), have been nominated to the Sprinters Stakes to be run on Oct. 4th, 2015 at Nakayama Race Course.
They are scheduled to arrive in Japan on Sept. 24th.

Active Minoru takes Centaur S


Active Minoru led the field of 16 and was never behind, winning the grade two Centaur Stakes at Hanshin on Sunday. Before a nose victory, he denied challenges by Uliuli, Barbara and Straight Girl. 
Uliuli came second, a neck before Barbara with another nose further back Straight Girl fourth.
Kota Fujoka rode the winning horse to cover the 1,200-meter distance in 1 minute 7.80 seconds on firm ground.
Active Minoru is a 3-year-old dark bay colt by Statue of Liverty out of the Agnes Tachyon mare Piena Amazon.

Blanket finish in Autumn Handicap
The Keisei Hai Autumn Handicap at Nakayama was in an exciting blanket finish. Fra Angelico, who ran far off the pace, finished a nose better than Extra End to win the grade three 1,600-meter race under Hironobu Tanabe in 1 minute 33.30 seconds on firm ground. Young Man Power came, another nose back, second with Grand Silk finishing another head further away fourth.
Fra Angelico is a 7-year-old chestnut horse by Neo Universe out of Curly Angel, by Judge Angelucci.

A field has been drawn for the Centaur Stakes, one of the major preps for the grade one Sprinters Stakes,  for 3-year-olds and up at Hanshin on Sunday.

Favorite romps Kokura Nisai


Heavy favorite Shuji went into the front entering the strech on his way to winning the grade three Kokura Nisai Stakes at Kokura on Sunday. Yasunari Iwata rode the winning colt to complete the 1,200-meter trip in 1 minute 8.90 seconds.
Saimon Seele came, a 2 1/2-length behind, second with Red Lauda another neck back third.
Shuji, who has now registered three wins as many starts, is a 2-year-old bay colt by Kinshasa no Kiseki out of the Kingmambo mare Kastria.

Passion Dance takes Niigata Kinen
Passion Dance, ridden by Mirco Demuro, just got up to the line in time, winning the Niigata Kinen on Sunday at Niigata. He won the 2,000-meter race in 1 minute 58.20 seconds by a head from Meiner Milano. Phantom Light finished third, a 2 1/2-length behind Meiner Milano.
Passion Dance is a 7-year-old bay horse by Deep Impact out of Kiss Pasion, by Jade Robbery.

Admire Eikan wins Sapporo Nisai


After a thrilling ding-dong battle with Prophet in the last 200 meters or so, Admire Eikan won the grade three Sapporo Nisai Stakes for 2-year-olds under Yasunari Iwata at Sapporo on Sunday. The final time  for the 1,800-meter turf race was 1 minute 50.80 seconds.
A nose behind, Prophet finished second with another 1 1/4-length away Crocosmia third.
Admire Eikan is a 2-year-old bay colt by Heart's Cry out of the French Deputy mare Peruvian Lily.

JRA Graded Races this weekend


A total of 18 horses will run in the Niigata Kinen for 3-year-olds and upward on Sunday at Niigata Race Course.

Majesty Hearts, second in the Sekiya Kinen, drew post 9. Niigata Daishoten winner D'accord had post 7.

Musee Sultan, one of the two 3-year-old colts in the field, who finished sixth in the Japanese Derby, faces the older company. He breaks from post 10.
Avenir Marcher, the other 3-year-old colt who had fourth in the NHK Mile Cup, breaks from post 17.
