Leontes rallies in Futurity Stakes

Leontes, at his only second start, rallied in the stretch to win the grade one Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes at Hanshin Racecourse on Sunday. Mirco Demuro rode the winner, completing the 1,600-meter race in 1 minute 34.40 seconds.
Leontes, a half brother to 2014 Japan Cup winner Epiphaneia, raced at the dead last in the early stage, but he displayed an outstanding stretch run to get past favorite Air Spinel for a 3/4-length victory.
A 4-length behind Air Spinel, Shadow Approach was third place.
Trained by K. Sumii and owned by Carrot Farm, Leontes has now won two as many starts with more than 78 million jpn yen. Northern Farm was bred the 2-year-old dark bay colt, by King Kamehameha out of Cesario, by Special Week.
