Smart Layer wins second Hanshin Himba S


Second favorite Smart Layer led all the way to gain the second Hanshin Himba Stakes victory at Hanshin on Saturday. Race favorite Mikki Queen made a great effort to challenge, but finished a neck short of the victory in second. Another 3/4-length behind, Win Primera finished third. The final time for the 1,600-meter distance on firm ground was 1 minute 33.10 seconds.
Mirco Demuro on Smart Layer won the second Hanshin Himba Stakes since 2001 as he won the race on Air Thule.
Smart Layer, who won the Tokyo Shimbun Hai prior to the Hanshin Himba Stakes, is a 6-year-old grey mare by Deep Impact out of Snow Style, by White Muzzle.


Dantsu Prius takes NZ Trophy
Dantsu Prius denied challenge by Stormy Sea to win the grade two New Zealand Trophy at Nakayama on Saturday. A nose separated by the two. Another neck behind, Eclat Millenaire came third. Genki Maruyama rode the winner to cover the 1,600-meter trip in 1 minute 33.90 seconds on firm ground.
Dantsu Prius is a 3-year-old bay colt by Brian's Time out of Strong Leda, by Manhattan Cafe.
