Daimei Princess takes IBIS Summer Dash

Daimei Princess, with Shinichiro Akiyama up, won the IBIS Summer Dash at Niigata on Sunday. A 1 1/4-length behind, Love Kampf was second with another 1 1/4-length away Nine Tails third. Daimei Princess ran the 1,000-meter straight course in the excellent time of 53.8.
Daimei Princess, who has now won six in 21 starts, is a 5-year-old dark bay mare by King Halo out of Daimei Dark, by Dance in the Dark.

Deirdre romps Queen S

Deirdre, staying at second to last early on, rallied in the stretch to win the Hokkaido Shimbun Hai Queen Stakes at Sapporo on Sunday. She won it in 1:46.2 by a desivie 3-length from Frontier Queen with another neck away Soul Stirring third. Christophe Lemaire rode the winner.
Deirdre, who has now won six of her 18 races, is a 4-year-old bay filly by Harbinger out of Reizend, by Special Week.

Greater London wins Chukyo Kinen in record time

Race favorite Greater London rallied in the stretch on his way to winning the Chukyo Kinen in the record time of 1:32.3 for the Chukyo 1,600-meter turf course. Logi Cry a 3/4-length behind the winner in second. Another 1 1/2-length behind, Reliable Ace was third. The winning rider was Hironobu Tanabe.
Greater London, who has now gained his first grade victory, totally seven wins in 15 starts, is a 6-year-old bay horse by Deep Impact out of London Bridge, by Dr Devious.

Aster Pegasus(USA) gets up in time in Hakodate Nisai

Aster Pegasus(USA), who was coming far behind in the stretch, got up in the nick of time to win the grade three Hakodate Nisai Stakes at Hakodate on Sunday.
Ryoya Kozaki-steered Aster Pegasus(USA) won the 1,200-meter race in 1:09.4 by a nose from Love Me Fine. Another 3/4-length behind, Carlino was third.
Aster Pegasus(USA), bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings LCC in US, who has now recorded 2 for 2, is a 2-year-old chestnut colt by Giant's Causeway out of R Heat Lightning, by Trippi.

Mitsuba back-to-back victory in Mercury C

On Monday, July 16 at Morioka track, Mitsuba gained victory in the  Mercury Cup for two consecutive years. He won the NAR grade three 2,000-meter dirt race in 2:03.5 under Kohei Matsuyama. Yoshio, who set the pace from start, finished a length behind in second. Another 4-length behind, Phoenix Mark was third.
Mitsuba, tained at JRA Ritto by T. Kayo, is a 6-year-old bay horse by Kane Hekili out of Saint Christmas, by Commander in Chief.

Air Anthem takes Hakodate Kinen

Air Anthem took a good position to win the Hakodate Kinen at Hakodate on Sunday. He won the 2,000-meter race in 1:59.8 under Yusuke Fujioka by a 1/2-length from Sakura Empereur. Another 1/2-length behind, Etena Minoru was third.
Air Anthem, who has now won his first grade race, is a 7-year-old dark bay horse by Symboli Kris S out of Air Magdalene, by Sunday Silence.

Le Vent Se Leve rallies in Japan Dirt Derby

Le Vent Se Leve, ridden by Mirco Demuro, came from far behind to win the NAR grade one Japan Dirt Derby at Ohi track on Wednesday night. A 1 1/2-length behind, Omega Perfurm was second with another neck back Great Time third. The winner came across the wire in 2:05.8 over 2,000 meters on dirt.
Le Vent Se Leve, trained at JRA Miho by K. Hagiwara, who has now won five of his six races, is a 3-year-old bay colt by Symboli Kris S out of Maestrale, by Neo Universe.

2018 Japan Dirt Derby

Big surprise in Tanabata

Meadowlark, installed as the 11th favorite at the odds of 100.8(499/5), won the Tanabata Sho at Fukushima racecourse on Sunday. He won it by a neck from fourth favorite Meiner Sage. Another 2-length away, Power Pocket was third.  Kyotosuke Maruta rode the winner to get into the wire in 2:00.8 over 2,000 meters on turf.
It was the first victory for Meadowlark since June 2015 when winning the June Stakes at Tokyo.
Meadowlark is a 7-year-old bay horse by Tanino Gimlet out of Agehibari, by Kurofune.

Matera Sky(USA) wins Procyon S in record time

Matera Sky(USA) with Yutaka Take up made the running and went all the way to win the Procyon Stakes in the record time of 1:20.3 over 1,400 meters on dirt at Chukyo racecourse. A 4-length behind, Incantation was second with another 1/2-length back Win Mut third.
Matera Sky(USA), who has now won six of his 19 races, is a 4-year-old chestnut colt by Speightstown out of Mostaqeleh, by Rahy.

Rieno Tesoro(USA) wins Sparking Lady C

Rieno Tesoro(USA), ridden by Hayato Yoshida, took a lead leaving the back stretch to win the NAR grade three Sparking Lady Cup at Kawasaki track on Thursday night. A 1/2-length behind, Oken Believe was second with Rabbit Run(USA) third and One Millionth fourth. Final time of the 1,600-meter dirt race was 1:40.8.
Rieno Tesoro(USA), trained at JRA Miho by R. Takei, who ended her losing streak to have the 5th victory in 14 starts, is a 4-year-old chestnut filly by Speightstown out of Akilina, by Langfuhr.

Ares Barows rallies in CBC Sho

Ares Barows rallied on the outside to win the CBC Sho at Chukyo on Sunday. A 1/4-length behind, Nagara Flower took second with another 2/3-length back Second Table third.
Yuga Kawada steered the winner to cover the 1,200-meter distance in 1:07 on firm ground.
Ares Barows is a 6-year-old dark bay horse by Deep Impact out of Taisei Etoile, by Tony Bin.

Meisho Tekkon takes Radio Nikkei

Meisho Tekkon held a good position to win the Radio Nikkei Sho at Fukushima on Sunday. Fierement came from dead last to finish second, a 1/2-length behind. Third was, another 3/4-length behind, Kibono Daichi. Meisho Tekkon, ridden by Kohei Matsuyama, completed the 1,800-meter trip in 1:46.1.
Meisho Tekkon, who has now won four of his seven races, is a 3-year-old brown colt by Manhattan Cafe out of A Shin Velocity, by Lemon Drop Kid.
